SECOND DAY SCIENTIFIC SESSION 13.07.20
Worldwide, about 85–88 % of ARI episodes are Acute Upper
Respiratory Infections (AURI) while the remaining are Acute
Lower Respiratory Infections (ALRI). In the most recent
estimate of ALRI associated mortality in India, pneumonia
was held responsible for 369,000 deaths (28 % of all deaths)
among those 1–59 months, making it the single most
important killer in this age group.
Infections caused by viruses are universal during childhood
and adolescence. Paediatricians are regularly caring children
who present with infections caused by a various number of
viral pathogens. These viral infections have varied clinical
presentations. Many infections may have clinical
presentations that are specific to the infecting virus but
present differently, based on the age and immunity of the
child. Some children are directly impacted early in their lives
when maternal disease results in an in-utero infection
(cytomegalovirus, rubella virus, HSV or parvovirus B19).
Other viruses may infect children in latter age as they grow
older (rhinovirus, influenza virus, parainfluenza virus). Many
viral infections frequently encountered in the past are no
longer present due to widespread immunization efforts.
Recognition of these vaccine-preventable Viral infections is
important because outbreaks of some of these diseases
(mumps or measles) continue to occur. Vigilance in vaccine
programs against these viral agents can prevent their re-
emergence. An increasing number of viral infections (herpes
simplex virus, influenza virus, varicella zoster virus, or
cytomegalovirus, Hepatitis virus etc.) can now be
successfully treated with antiviral medications. Most viral
infections in children result in self-limited illness and are
treated symptomatically and infected children experience full
recovery. This webinar will address the epidemiology, clinical
presentation, differential diagnosis, treatment, prevention and
prognosis of different viral infections commonly encountered
by the clinician.
Now days whole world is fighting with pandemic. Among the
non-vaccine preventable viral infections, emphasis was given
to viral infections in children and their long-term outcomes,
care and management options for bronchiolitis, broncho-
pneumonia related to respiratory syncytial virus, the clinical
implications of hepatitis B virus and cytomegalovirus
genotyping, the Ebola virus threat. The oral, oropharyngeal,
laryngeal, nasal and ocular viral infections and other novel
emerging virus of infancy and childhood.
Ayurveda has always stood as main line of treatment during
the viral outbreaks either as preventive, curative, health
promotive post infection to bring back the patients to
normalcy. Acharyas have always explained that whenever
name of a disease is not mentioned in the classics then
based on clinical features Dosha– Dooshyas have to be
analysed and treated accordingly.
Guduchi, Katuki, Kalamegha, Bhoonimba, Shunthi, Lashuna,
Tulasi, Yashtimadhu, Ashwagandha, Haridra, Triphala,
Pippali, Maricha, Twak and Ela etc are the gifts of Ayurveda
to the world which have anti-viral, antimicrobial,
immunomodulatory,rejuvenatory,hepatoprotective,antipyretic
and analgesic properties, when used judiciously by an
Ayurvedic physician can help to treat the disease effectively.
More researches, discussions, utilization, preparation of
medicine, dosage fixation as per drug and preparations, mode
of action on doshas etc are need of the day.
The main objective of this webinar is to enhance the
knowledge of the medical students, UG/PG Diploma i.e.
PGDNC (Ay) and D. Ch. (Ay), residents and young faculty members, about common respiratory viruses, its
modes of transmission, sign and symptoms, diagnosis
and management, for better care and management of
pediatric populations. This International webinar is one of its
kind to bring in the experts from various part of country and
abroad under one roof to cater their experience to the
medical fraternity to father build on the existing knowledge
