internet of things and its impact on telco - building a new ecosystem hub:raum
DESCRIPTION
Shaping the next big advance after the "internet" in whole. How and what to build, and how to support that growth. My lecture on Internet of Things on Internet Beta 2013 from Hub:RaumTRANSCRIPT

From ARPAnet to IOT – where we are now?
➜ Who could have believed what will evolve from a bunch of protocols and applications
➜ We are having problems comprehending and believing in what this connected world of today will evolve in tomorrow
➜ What prospects and threats the future will bring?

PILOT
• IPv6 for adresses

HOW?
TERRASTREAM
PILOT
• High speed (up to 1 Gbit/s)
• OpenStack – virtualOS
• Cloud paradigm
• Full automation

ESAND THREATS
CHALLENGES AND
THREATS➜ Existing security protocols not good enough➜ The threat is much more severe because they affect
physical objects instead of virtual ones➜ Stability and integrity of critical systems
(power, flight control, etc.) ➜ Privacy: a paradigm of privacy moving to the real world
(CCTV, sensors data, location data…) ➜ Data protection is more important than ever
12
THE IMPACT OF
IOT?
Total connectivity Generating huge amounts of data
Using the data to improve on the physical worldOptimize and enhance any experience
DATA WILL FIND YOU not the other way around
13
ULTIMATE GOAL OF IOT
? Ultimately, the ability to make sensor streams meaningful by finding significant links to multiple, varied sources of data is what will lead to promising developments in each category.
But first, we have to design products that are intuitive to install and easy to understand, giving us feedback in a human language that tells us things that matter in our everyday lives.
BUT?
14
WHERE ARE STARTUPS IN THIS STORY? Highways and roads, buildings and storage places are being built.
We ALL need someone to populate that empty space, make use of the infrastructure and given opprotunities.
Design meaningful experiences and exploit the advantages of IOT infrastructure.
Internet has created HUGE, diverse universe once the infrastructure and tools were accessible to wider public.
BUILD it and they will come. What will you build?
