Applications
-
Internet2 ApplicationsWhat are Internet2 applications? They deliver qualitative and quantitative improvements in how we conduct research and engage in teaching and learningThey require advanced networks to work
-
Different Disciplines/ContextsSciencesArtsHumanitiesHealth careBusiness/LawAdministrationLibraryClassroomClinicOfficeLaboratoryDorm room
-
For example Remote CollaborationVirtual Room Videoconferencing System (VRVS) & theAccess GridSupport multipoint video-conferencing, where distributed reflectors spread computationally expensive responsibility
-
For example Science & EngineeringHigh Energy and Nuclear Physics (HENP)Generating multi-petabyte datasets, gigabytes per second per experiment, requires a cascading data storage model, near-zero packet loss per data stream, and a distributed database for end-user data manipulation.
Each experiment requires input from hundreds of researchers around the world.
Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEESGrid)Running hybrid experiments, synchronizing physical and computational experiments.
Synchronizing large volumes of data of different types: sensor, video, etc.
-
For example Health Sciences3D Brain MapVisualization of data: real-time MRI, previously stored data, etc.Computational information transferred to supercomputers and used to understand brain functions in real timeVery large multi-dimensional, multi-modal, time-varying data sets
Biomedical Informatics Research Network (BIRN)Extremely large data sets and repositoriesDynamically generate 3D visualizations from medical recordsGenerating 36Gbytes/day, so new models for search, retrieval and analysis will be necessary

Explain different categories, give examples
Note that collaboration site status is actually a membership term
Note that primary and secondary participation status can potentially apply to other Internet2 backbone networksThis is the latest map of Internet2 universities. Each Internet2 university commits to providing the high performance networking on their own campus, connecting to a high-performance backbone network, and supporting advanced applications development on their own campus. There are also over a total of 70 corporate members (including corporate partners) in Internet2, and over 30 affiliate members. This is the latest list of Internet2 Corporate Partners. Corporate partners have committed to providing over US$1million in support of collaborations with Internet2 universities. These are the organizations in other countries with which Internet2 has formal relationships. These organizations have goals and objectives which are similar to those of Internet2. Most of these are the organizations and/or networks serve all of higher education in their respective countries. When its appropriate and possible, Internet2 works to interconnect the high-performance research and education network infrastructure in the United States with that in the countries of these organizations. This is a broad generalization of the Internet2 network infrastructure. This is a broad generalization of the Internet2 network infrastructure. This is a broad generalization of the Internet2 network infrastructure. This is a broad generalization of the Internet2 network infrastructure. This is a broad generalization of the Internet2 network infrastructure.
