Internship Opportunities Xerox Research Centre India (XRCI), Bangalore Analytics Research Group The Analytics Research Group in Xerox Research Centre India (XRCI) is seeking bright Undergraduate, Masters and PhD students for research internships to participate in exciting research and technology development projects. The intern will work closely with very talented researchers to create and deliver innovative technical solutions, publish papers in top conferences and journals, contribute to the generation of patents, and pursue breakthrough research in a challenging and stimulating environment. We offer internships to students from the best universities around the world. Internships are usually given for a period ranging from 3 to 12 months. Applicants will work on interesting projects in one or more of the following areas: Design and development of novel analytics applications for wide variety of data including text, images, social media, audio, video, graph to gain business insights using techniques from machine learning and pattern recognition, text and data mining, statistical and stochastic modelling, computer vision, graph mining and natural language processing. o Applicant in this category should be familiar with one or more of the subject matters mentioned above along with strong expertise in fundamental computer science topics such as Data Structures and Algorithm, Design and Analysis of Programs along with strong programming skills using popular languages such as Java, Python, C, C++, Scripting Languages (for some projects expertise in Matlab may be required). Design and development of solutions for fundamental problems in machine learning and optimization, statistical data and text mining, computer vision, graph mining etc. o Applicant in this category should have long term research outlook with strong expertise in at least one of the above topics with familiarity with the rest. Prior experience of solving research problems and publications in top conferences and journals will be preferred. The Distributed and Mobile Computing group at XRCI, Bangalore is seeking highly motivated

undergraduate and graduate students for internship opportunities. Selected students will have the

opportunity to work with our world-class researchers on highly challenging problems , that involve

leveraging state-of-the-art tools and technologies to be applied to exciting real-world problems.

During the process, the students can gain exposure to the culture of innovation at Xerox and

network with a global pool of talented interns from across the world. The internship projects are

formulated in a manner that can lead to publications in top conference and journals, and also

become a part of our larger projects at XRCI.

Who we are The Distributed and Mobile Computing group at Xerox Research Centre India focuses on building

innovative tools and technologies that leverage the cloud infrastructure to create large-scale,

optimized, and sustainable services offerings. Our team of researchers are specifically involved in

developing innovations for enterprise business processes – that include key technology enablers for

enterprise workflows, document management systems, as well as workforce management. Further,

with the proliferation of mobile phones and the ubiquity of smart sensors/devices, we envision that

the next-generation of applications need to be capable of adapting in highly dynamic operating

environments and, in particular, be sensitive to the context of the participants. With this vision, we

are growing a competency around mobile and sensing systems that can be leveraged for solving

societal-scale problems and positively impact multiple domains ranging from improved

infrastructure, to better health and education, and increased productivity and infotainment. The

expertise of our researchers lie in the areas of distributed systems, cloud computing, Web services

and SOA-enabled platforms, mobile and pervasive systems, and large-scale sensing.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking applications from highly motivated Ph.D., Master’s or Bachelor’s Students in

Computer Science (or related field). In-depth knowledge of one or more of Distributed Systems,

Networking, Mobile and Pervasive Computing, Web Technologies, Algorithms and Optimization,

User Interface/Experience Design are encouraged to apply. Programming knowledge in

Java/C++/Python/Shell scripting and/or platforms like iPhone, Android, etc. is desirable.

Big Data analysis and visualization based on data from real life applications

Mobile and Pervasive Computing that implement real life solutions with particular focus on

mobile client application development

Data analytics using machine learning, graph analysis, statistical techniques, social media,

text/audio/video analytics for identifying and implementing classification/clustering/prediction

solutions to gain business insights

Sophisticated Data analytics of social media text, video, speech or images to gain business

insights using techniques from machine learning, graph analysis, statistical and stochastic

modelling, natural language processing and semantic web

Distributed Systems with particular emphasis on cloud computing, web/mobile application

development and large scale software systems

Human Computation with emphasis on optimization, crowd computation, image processing,

knowledge-based systems and user interfaces

Human Centred Design that interacts with computers to translate ethnographic insights into

information architectures, conceptual prototypes and working solutions

The interns will participate in cutting edge research and will apply the highest level of technical

competence, analytical and problem solving abilities in support of original and creative scientific

projects of significant business impact.

The ideal candidate for the research intern position will:

Be enrolled in a PhD (or Master’s with thesis) program in Computer Science, Applied

Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Humanities studies or a related discipline.

Have excellent programming skills in Java, C, scripting languages such as Perl, Python,

Ruby, Scala, etc. and/or application development platforms like Android

Have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Stipend and Relocation: The interns will be paid a stipend that is competitive with what other leading

companies pay in India. XRCI will also cover expenses related to travel to the work location and

provide accommodation.
