Acknowledgement:

I was selected in Future Leadership Internship Program (FLIP) offered by DESCON after

online test clearance. On the first day of my internship at DESCON, the presentation

regarding the DESCON (design & construction) future leadership internship program (FLIP)

& orientation on the health & safety was also presented & we had informed to follow all the

rules & regulations while staying at DESCON.

After the presentation, we had sent to our respective departments. As I am chemical

engineering student (final year),So I was assigned to do internship in Health Safety &

Environment (HSE) Department under-supervision of Madam Samina Wasim (HSE Head)

&Mr. Hafiz Muhammad Sultan Ayub (HSE Engineer). I was given the Internship Plan&

attendance sheet to maintain every day from your supervisor. I am grateful both of them.

This report indicates the worth of my training at the DesconEngineering Services

&Technology (DEST).

My time was spent as below:

1 hour session daily for new topic coverage

&

1 hour for group discussion on given topic

Internship Report

Executive Summary:

On the very first day of my internship, I was introduced through my supervisor and I was also

familiarized by him to the health Safety & Environment (HSE) Department. This department

is consisted of following dynamic experienced engineers as:

Departmental Head: Samina Wasim

Lead Engineer: M.Khizar Nawaz

HSE Engineer: Hafiz M.Sultan Ayub

HSE Engineer-1: Mehak Khalil

My internship plan was made by Head of the department (Madam Samina Wasim)

sequentially from the basics to the remarkable approach as to acquire more related

knowledge (HSE) in short period of internship.

I got theoretical &practical experience in the area of Health Safety & Environment, many

valuable skills and practical knowledge was gained during internship. Throughout internship

many assignments were assigned to me by my supervisor in order to implement my

theoretical knowledge into practical field such as:

Study of Hazard identification & risk assessment, to evaluate causes, consequences & its control

Risk management system (manage the risk through proper channel)

Loss prevention engineering techniques (eradication of the loss in the plant )

HAZOP study (Hazard & operability), in which I attained the knowledge that how systematic techniques are taken into consideration to identify potential hazards & operability problems & how to prepare the HAZOP study for any kind of process in operation.

Fire water system networking

Hydraulics of fire water system

Fire & Gas detection system & Mobile fire-fighting equipment.

Safety Concept in Project Cycle:

1. Project Initiation

2. Project Planning

3. Project Execution (Commissioning)

4. Project Closure (De-Commissioning)

Risk Management Techniques:

Risk management techniques are an essential but often overlooked prerequisites to successful active trading. After all, a trader who has generated substantial profits over his or her lifetime can lose it all in just one or two bad trades if proper risk management isn't employed. This article will discuss some simple strategies that can be used to protect your trading profits.

HAZOP (Hazard & Operability) Study:

Systematic technique to identify potential hazards & operability techniques based on

team effort

Node (any part of the complex plant is under considered)

Based upon guide words

It is for safety & hazards main concern & problem degrade the plant performance

System centered approach

Evaluate possible deviations from design intent

Potential cause

Deduce consequences

Guide words vs. meaning

Guide Word Meaning

NO OR NOT Complete negation of the design intent

MORE Quantitative increase

LESS Quantitative decrease

AS WELL AS Qualitative modification/increase

PART OF Qualitative modification/decrease

REVERSE Logical opposite of the design intent

OTHER THAN / INSTEAD Complete substitution

EARLY Relative to the clock time

LATE Relative to the clock time

BEFORE Relating to order or sequence

AFTER Relating to order or sequence

Overview Loss Prevention Engineering:

An engineering involved to prevent (eradicate) the loss of (personnel, property, equipment, product) etc. from the process carrying out, called loss prevention engineering.

Internship Report

This engineering involves:

Fire potential equipment

Fire zoning

Fire water calculation

Fire spray densities

Fire & smoke detector

Specific path for emergency evacuation

Specific signs

Location of hydrants/monitors

Fire Water System Networking:

Protect life and property by installing required equipment's.

Fire Zone Mapping

Fire water (FW) Demand Calculation

Calculations are done that where to place the hydrants and hoses so that they can be operated manually.

Two devises should provide coverage to equipment at a time.

Water storage tank in bulk quantities

Hydraulics of Fire Water System:

A proper or appropriate approach to be familiar & authentic knowledge regarding the fire &

water for the actual amount of the water supplied for the extinguishing of the fire according to

the following parameters taken into considerations:

Flow rate Pressure Temperature Size of the pipe Thickness of the pipe Temperature

Conclusion:

Throughout my internship tenure at Health Safety & Environment department DEST

Business Area (BA) at DESCON, I became inspired and visualized by the rules & regulations

& especially the Cleanliness is its topmost pace. The culture of the organization, dedication

of the employees towards their duties is found common.

Last but not least,

RISE & SHINE DESCON….

THANKING YOU DESCON
