What led you to choose this line of work ?
“My father started the company, he passed
away and I took over.”
What do you enjoy most about your job?why
“You get to meet a lot of people especially
when people come from other provinces and
countries and I get to drive them”
Does your job involve travelling ? If so where?
“I have to go to Ontario and Quebec to get
buses and drive them back.”
Is your job stressful? Why or why not?
“Yes, I am responsible for 20 buses, about 2000
kids to school and back safely”
If you could change a part of your job what would it be and why?
“ I’d drive less and spend more time running the business so things will run smoothly”
Do you get certain benefits from your job? If so what are they?
“ We get every holiday, a lot of holidays during the school year because of weather conditions and given school holidays.”
Did your first job have any effect on you choosing your current job? If so how?
“I use to drive a truck so it makes it easier when
I'm driving a bus.”
What advice would you give to someone going into this line of work ?
“Run, run far and fast,HAHA! No,you need to
realize you're dealing with kids, so you need to
have patience and not to take things that they
say too seriously.”
How has technology changed in your work?
“ The buses are a lot more technical and you need more sophisticated equipment for testing and repairing the buses”
What skill set is necessary to do your job?
“ You need be dependable and have lots of
patience and have a special license to drive a
bus along with a clean driving record.”
If you could choose another job what would it be? Why?
“I would like to manage a golf Course because I
love playing golf and that would give me an
opportunity to golf more often.”
Does your job affect your personal life? If so how ?
“ Yes, because being the owner there is always
something popping up that you have to deal
with, even on your time off”
Can you describe your work environment ?
“When I'm in the garage repairing its mostly
land, dirty and a lot of physical labor and when
I'm driving the busses its mostly noisy and
stressful dealing with traffic and the safety of
the kids.”
What struggles do you face working in this career?
“ I have to deal with parents a lot, have to deal
with teachers, school administrators, and also I
have to deal with the school boardadministrators, getting qualified
drivers”
What type f education d you need to pursue this career?
“ You don’t need any specific education but you
need to be educated to learn all the safety
protocols to be able to drive a bus”
Would you rather work alone or with other people? Why?
“ I’d rather work with other people because I
like meeting different people because most
people you meet are interesting”
How do you think your career might change in ten years?
“There will be a lot more training for the drivers
and the buses will be a lot more technologically
advanced “
Do you get any holidays? If so how long?
“Yes, we get all the holidays the schools get,
plus 2 months over the summer, personally I
take two weeks of holidays during thesummer.”
How long have you been doing your job? Do you plan on retiring?
“ I've been doing my job for 38 years and I plan
on soon retiring.”
Are you satisfied with the amount of money you make ?
“yes, but I could always use more”
