A Learning Management System (LMS), which allows students and teachers to connect and engage digitally

PURPOSE OF SESSION

This session will act as an orientation/introduction to Schoology from the perspective of a student. Topics covered will include:

• Schoology Navigation• Basic Features• Course Materials (assignments, quizzes, etc.)• Communicating with teachers• Etc.

HOW DO I FIND MY ACTIVE DIRECTORY USERNAME AND PASSWORD?

• A student's username will be their 900 number

• All the letters in the password should be capital

• If you don't know your username or password:

Call (716) 816-7100 press Option 1If you don't know your child's 900 number, be ready to provide

their birth date

WAYS TO ACCESS SCHOOLOGY?

THERE ARE 4 WAYS TO LOGIN TO SCHOOLOGY

1. Using a Schoology QR Login Badge on an iPad2. Using a Schoology QR Login Badge on a computer3. Through Clever4. By visiting schoology.buffaloschools.org in a web

browser (preferably Google Chrome)

WHAT ARE SCHOOLOGY QR LOGIN BADGES?

• The Schoology QR code makes the process of logging into Schoology easier for the student.

• Your child's teacher will provide their Schoology QR Login Badge.

1.YOU CAN ACCESS SCHOOLOGY USING THE QR LOGIN BADGE ON AN iPAD

Keep in mind this is a great option for students who may have trouble remembering or typing in their active directory credentials.

2. Click Continue1. Find and open the Schoologyapp on the iPad.

3. Click Scan QR Code

5. Finally, scan yourSchoology QR Login Badge

4. You will have to allow Schoology to accessyour camera by clicking OKafter reciving a notification

1. Using the Google Chrome browser (or similar web browser, but Chrome is preferred since you won't have any trouble with it ), visit: apps.schoology.com

2. Click Scan QR Code

3. Allow Schoology to use your camera by clicking Allow when you receive a notification.

4. Scan your Schoology QR Login Badge which should automatically log you into Schoology

Clever is your one stop, login spot for many of the Buffalo Public Schools apps available to students

1. Visit the Student Resources page on the BPS website. Click students which should be located on the top right corner on the BPS page

2. Click on the Clever icon

3. Login to Clever with Active Directory or click the Clever Badge Login (if your teacher has given you a badge)

4. If you clicked Login with Active Directory, enter your active directory credentials(also known as the 900 #)

The Parts of Schoology

1- Courses: lists all the courses you are in now2- Groups: lists any groups you are a part of3- Calendar: shows any assignments or events coming up soon4- Messages: shows any messages to you from teachers5- Notifications: shows you any new activity in your courses, like new assignments6- Reminders: reminds the students of any upcoming assignments.7- Upcoming: lists assignment due dates and events coming up soon

SCHOOLOGY COURSES

SCHOOLOGY COURSES

Courses are essentially online classrooms. They connect classmates, contain course work, and give students a direct line to their teacher. Courses contain:

• Materials• Links to websites and virtual class meetings• Assignments• Discussions• Updates from teachers• Members of the course• Etc.

On a laptop click on Courseson the top bar

On an iPad, click the three lines in the top left corner. Then, click Courses. Finally, select the course.

ACCESSING SCHOOLOGY COURSES

On a laptop, if you don't see a course, click the My Courses option on the top right

To order your courses, on the My Courses page click Reorder Courses. Click and drag the courses to place them in the order

that you would like them to appear in your course list.

Click on the assignment Then, click Submit Assignment and locate the file on your laptop

Then, click the Submissions tab on the top and the + icon to

add/create a file

Submission Options:• Create Submission—Text box that allows the student to type a response• Submit Photo/Video—Submit a photo or video from the student's iPad camera roll• Submit From Resources—Allows the student to submit an artifact from their Schoology Resources

folder• Record Audio—Allows the student to record their voice and submit the recording the assignment• Submit from iOS Apps—Allows the student to submit artifacts from another app (ex. iMovie, Word,

PowerPoint, Keynote, etc.)

• Click the link to join the class and type your name.• Don't create an account!

ACCESSING VIRTUAL CLASS CONFERENCES

SYNCHRONOUS VS ASYNCHRONOUS

Synchronous

• Asynchronous refers to communication which takes place over a period of time, with one person communicating then waiting for other people to reply

• Examples include texting discussion boards and email

• Synchronous communication refers to communication taking place in real-time.

• Examples: phone conversations and video conference

Asynchronous

UPDATES

Updates in Schoology are usually used by teachers to make quick announcements for the members to see.

MEMBERS (on a Laptop)

The members section in Schoology provides a list of all the people in a course (teachers and students). Students can message their

teacher(s) through members.

MEMBERS (on an iPad)You can message a teacher by going to members, then click on their profile

picture. There should be a plus on the top right corner click that and a "New message" box should show up.
