DOGS

12.5 mg/125 mg SHEEP MEASLES continues to be a serious cause of carcass condemnation – the possibility that it is urban living dogs that are part of completing the life-cycle. Treating rural dogs only for Sheep Measles is not enough.

How is Milpro® different from Milbemax®?

Milpro® is not a generic – while it has the same active ingredients, Milpro® is a unique innovative product because of the meat-flavoured film coating which greatly increases spontaneous prehension and spontaneous consumption. Worming cats and dogs should be easy.

Is Milpro® safe to use in Collies?

Milbemycin is a macrocytic lactone, like ivermectin. As such there is concern about danger with using it in dogs that have mutation in their MDR1 gene. The danger with treating MDR1 mutant dogs with macrocytic lactones is only relevant when very high doses are used, such as for treating demodectic mange. The recommended doses for treating intestinal parasites are much lower and completely safe.

The MDR1 mutation is more common in collies than other breeds of dogs, but the incidence of the mutation is very small. Please note that Border Collies are not true collies, but actually sheep dogs. By collies we mean Shetland Sheepdogs, Rough Collies (Lassie dogs) and the like. There is a genetic test for the mutation available.
