Trash Collection Program!

When Do We Start?New automated trash carts will be delivered to all residents on April 11, 2018. An informational tag will be attached to your new trash cart that will offer pertinent information.

New automated trash collection will begin for each resident the week following the delivery of their new cart on April 16th.

SERVICE DAY CHANGEStarting April 16, 2018 your trash and recycling collection day will change to: MONDAY

Automated Trash Collection is Coming!In an effort to efficiently service trash and recycling collection throughout your neighborhood, RDS will be implementing a new and convenient automated trash collection service this month and your regular collection day will be changing!

On April 11th, residential customers will receive a new gray automated trash cart for household waste and your new collection day will begin the following week on a new service day.

RDS Will Deliver New Trash Carts Residents will receive, at no extra cost, one new trash cart from RDS. This new 95-gallon capacity cart will hold as much trash as three standard trash cans. The new trash cart has an attached lid that is great for sealing your trash and keeping animals out. The attached lid is also good for stormwater pollution prevention. Each cart also comes with a set of wheels which will help make moving containers to the street much easier.

Use to collect household trash. Automated carts should be set out in front of your home, at street level, with the cart wheels against the curb, if applicable.

If you do not want your old containers, place a note on them indicating you no longer want them and put them out at the curb on your collection day the week following delivery of your new trash cart.

What To Do On Collection Day

• Set out your trash, recycling and green waste carts at the curb, if applicable, before 6 a.m. on your scheduled service day or the night before.

• Arrows on the lid of your carts should point toward the street.

• Keep a minimum of two (2) feet distance between your carts and three (3) feet from obstructions such as parked cars, mailboxes, trees and telephone poles.

• Please do not overload your trash cart. Do not overfill the automated cart to prevent the cart lid from properly closing.

• Please be careful not to place carts in areas of traffic, such as bike lanes, to avoid blocking paths of travel.

Questions & Answers:• Will just one automated trash cart hold a

week’s worth of trash?

For most residents, yes. A 95-gallon capacity trash cart, provided at no cost to residents by RDS, will hold approximately the same amount of trash as three standard trash cans. This should be more than enough capacity for most families, particularly when recyclables and yard waste are separated properly for recycling.

• Can I use regular trash cans or trash bags if I fill my automated cart before my collection day?

No. The automated waste collection trucks can only pick up the automated carts provided by RDS. The mechanical arms that empty automated carts cannot pick up smaller objects such as standard trash cans or plastic bags.

• Can I receive more than one trash cart?

Yes. Additional trash carts are available from RDS for a nominal monthly fee. Additional recycling carts are available at no extra cost. Two additional green waste carts are available at no extra cost (three free green carts total).

• Will RDS continue to offer bulky-item collection?

Yes. Please call our office to schedule a pick up and for associated fees.

Keep a Lid on Storm Water Pollution!In addition to efficient waste collection service, your new carts will help prevent storm water pollution in your neighborhood. Your cart’s attached lid will keep you trash sealed and secure.

Storm-water runoff has been determined to be a major cause of water pollution. Unlike the sanitary sewer system where water is treated, runoff that enters a storm drain is not treated and discharges directly into area receiving waters.

RDS’s recycling programs will remain unchanged. Please continue to separate yard waste in your green yard waste cart.

Household recyclables should also continue to be placed in your blue commingled recycling cart.
