INSTRUCTIONS The new Local Church Profile supports the calling and discernment of United Church of Christ congregations with their current or future pastoral leadership. For many congregations, the interim time between ministers is an intentional season that is guided in part by the preparation of a Local Church Profile. Using the Profile, the church can discover its data and express its story for the reliable discernment of a search committee and the beginning of a new pastorate. Searching ministers will want to see this document in its entirety. The interim season is not the only time in a church’s life when it’s valuable to give attention to explore a congregation’s vocation. Three sections of the Local Church Profile – WHO ARE WE NOW, WHO IS OUR NEIGHBOR, and WHO IS GOD CALLING US TO BECOME – are meant to be updated every 3-5 years. Known together as the “Discovery Document,” these three sections can be completed by a visioning group, a governing body, a transition team, or other group – not just the search committee – in order to draw forward the gifts and imaginative possibilities of a congregation. The church’s engagement with the “Discovery Document” might not have the same sequence as the completed Local Church Profile that is read by candidates. Some questions are easy to answer. Some are not so easy. Prompts are provided to stimulate narrative response if needed; these italicized prompts are merely examples from which to choose or to inspire your own. Efforts to answer the questions will prompt conversations and explorations and story-tellings and many prayers. As the Spirit moves throughout the process, congregations will shape a collective articulation of Christ’s leading (WHO IS GOD CALLING US TO BECOME). This last question to be answered becomes the first section to be read by searching ministers in the Local Church Profile, and it is boldest and most actionable piece for faithful leadership into the future. Your conference can provide materials referenced in the Local Church Profile, such as the 11-Year Report containing data as reported by your congregation annually to the UCC Data Hub, and MissionInsite reports containing demographic information on your community. More information on types of pastorate in the United Church of Christ can be found in the Call Agreement Workbook. Be sure to use the Call Agreement Workbook’s Scope of Work to describe in this Local Church Profile the position being sought. When it is time for ministerial search, the conference can counsel you on posting the Local Church Profile together with your public listing at UCC Ministry Opportunities (http://oppsearch.ucc.org). The last page of the Local Church Profile contains a statement that parallels the consent statement signed by ministers in the UCC Ministerial Profile. In keeping with the covenantal relationship between a church and those it seeks to call, this statement encourages an open, honest exchange of information. On behalf of the United Church of Christ, and on the basis of the best knowledge available to them, your conference staff will validate your completed Local Church Profile when it is ready to be shared in relationship with prospective new leaders.

Shana Johnson Conference Minister Phone: 618-654-2125 Email: [email protected] Summary Ministry Description:

Don’t miss your opportunity to lead St. John UCC in world-famous Valmeyer, Illinois, into our next glorious chapter! Our town and church buildings were destroyed by the Mississippi River flood of 1993, often called the “thousand-year flood.” Since then the village of Valmeyer has been relocated to higher ground, we have rebuilt our church, become debt free, and have a strong, faithful following. We are nestled on the tranquil bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River Valley in rural southern Illinois’ fastest-growing Monroe County. We consider ourselves small, healthy, and welcoming to all. We treasure our history and are so excited for the future as we share God’s love and generosity with our church family, community, and world. We are seeking an active leader and partner to guide us with a progressive voice, who preaches biblically-based messages that relate to current-day issues and our everyday lives. We dream of an inspiring leader who will work with our diverse parishioners to develop and implement a robust strategy for expanding our ministry. This energetic individual will guide us to become our best selves serving Christ and our communities.

1d. WHO IS GOD CALLING TO MINISTER WITH US? Describe the ministry goals you envision your next minister co-collaborating with the congregation to achieve.

1. Develop a five-year strategic plan to grow, attract all ages of members, and increase existing members’ regular attendance

2. Implement this plan with us, helping us to be creative and faithful in our approach 3. Continue and grow the family we have become 4. Increase our outreach

Describe how your vision of the minister you are now seeking will assist the congregation in making an impact beyond its walls.

Like most mainline U.S. congregations, St. John UCC is struggling with eroding membership, loss of youth interest, and competition from busy schedules and contemporary non-denominational churches. The forward-thinking and talented individual we want to call will work with us to not only creatively develop our short-term plans, but will help us build a model that can carry us far into the future here in Valmeyer and throughout the world as a vibrant part of Christ’s Church. We look to our settled pastor to co-create a culture that will strengthen our Christian faith and sustain our beliefs in a progressive biblical manner.

Specify language requirements or culturally-specific capacities preferred in a next ministerial leader, and why those matter to the congregation’s sense of calling. English Based on what you have learned about who your church is, who your church’s neighbor is, and who God is calling the church to become, describe four areas of excellence from The Marks of Faithful & Effective Authorized Ministry that your next minister will display to further equip the congregation’s ministry in these areas.

1. Communicating passion for the oneness of the Body of Christ (John 17:21) 2. Exhibiting a commitment to the core values of the United Church of Christ: continuing

testament, extravagant welcome, and changing lives 3. Empowering the Church to be faithful to God’s call, reflective of Christ’s mission, and

open to the surprises of the Holy Spirit 4. Strategically creating the future of God’s church

Page 9: INTRODUCING THE NEW LOCAL CHURCH PROFILE€¦ · neighbor . Who are . we . The new Local Church Profile is not just for congregations in search of a pastor. All . congregations are

2. WHO IS GOD CALLING US TO BECOME? “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37 NRSV)

Who is God calling you to become as a congregation?

1. A church family focused on accepting and loving one another as God loves each of us 2. Providing worship that expresses the gospel in contemporary language and forms 3. A dynamic church that attracts all ages/types to worship routinely 4. A positive environment that encourages positive faithful actions 5. Provide Christian education for adults, children, and youth 6. A church where people look forward to attending each Sunday and every event, and

cannot wait to come back 7. An inviting and safe haven for all

Describe how God is calling you to reach out to address the emerging challenges and opportunities of your community and congregation.

For example, describe two experiments your congregation has initiated or engaged in the past year, what were the results and where do you see your next steps? Has your church had a multi-year strategic plan or vision statement; if so, where do you see that plan/vision taking you?

Our church does not have a multi-year plan; we hope to create this with our new pastor. St. John UCC cooperates with St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in a long-standing joint VBS program. In 2019 Trinity Family Church, a quite conservative congregation new to the village, was invited to participate and gave a resounding “Yes!” The three churches worked well together, sharing leadership and volunteers, sidestepping far-reaching differences in theology and social views to concentrate on sharing the good news of Jesus with Valmeyer’s children. The closing ceremony was joy-filled and encouraging, with positive, cooperative pastoral leadership from all three congregations. The 2018-19 confirmation class was offered the opportunity for parents to participate as confirmands alongside their children. Two moms accepted. The combination created an atmosphere of both comfort and challenge in which each of the seven students grew to actively root on their fellow confirmands. Ideas for future experiments might include: 1) How do we get members who are predominately inactive to become active? 2) How do we attract new members? 3) How do we become more progressive in worship, yet maintain ties to cherished traditions?

3a. CONGREGATIONAL REFLECTIONS ________ Describe your congregation’s life of faith.

For example, what beliefs and commitments are stated in your congregation’s purpose statement or membership vows? How is God most often described in worship liturgy? In what ways would you describe the Holy Spirit in your midst?

St. John UCC dates to 1907. Deeply rooted in German heritage, the church was built in the Mississippi River Valley, knowing that flooding was a real possibility. When the flood of 1993 hit, there was no going back to our dear church in the original village. Our Pastor of six years led us through good times and bad until our new church was built. That pastor was with us a total of twenty-nine years before he retired. We now have an Intentional Interim Pastor who is guiding us through the process of getting ready for a new settled Pastor. Our church and congregation has been through a lot since our first building was built in 1912. We have always managed to make it through. We have come a long way, with a long way yet to go. We need a settled Pastor who will continue to lead us on our spiritual journey.

Describe several strengths or positive qualities of your congregation.

1. Determination. When the flood of 1993 wiped out our church building, we came together and built a new one

For more of the story: http://apps.stlpublicradio.org/great-flood-25/valmeyer.html https://www.nytimes.com/1996/05/06/us/higher-and-drier-illinois-town-is-reborn.html

LOCAL CHURCH PROFILE – 201 PAGE 10

2. Compassion. We join together to help those in need whether it be with funds, a helping hand, a strong back, or a shoulder to lean on

3. Family-oriented. We worship, celebrate and mourn as a church family. We build strong friendships that last for generations

Describe what worship is like when your congregation gathers.

For example, where does worship take place, and what is it based around? What was a recent baptism like? What are some words used to describe good preaching?

We worship predominantly within the church sanctuary. Historically worship is based on readings from the New Testament and Old Testament. A key success factor for our church has been the children’s sermon, getting our youth involved in worship. Baptisms are usually well-attended, with several visitors associated with the family of the baptismal candidate. It is critical to relate the stories of the Bible to our current lives, focused on making us all better people in the eyes of God. The communication should be uplifting, relevant, relatable, and meaningful to each member in their own way. Music is so powerful, and needs to be a larger part of our worship service going forward. In the past we experienced a monthly contemporary/non-traditional service that was well received. Survey and focus group results strongly suggest that the congregation desires to revisit the idea in the future.

Describe the educational program/faith formation vision of your church.

For example, how are young people in leadership? How do people continue to form their faith over a lifetime? Name a topic studied or curriculum used recently; what was the impact of this study on those who attended?

We desire our new pastor to be very involved with our strategies, leadership, and children’s and youth programs. We need to explore new ways to keep the youth active into adulthood. There are currently few intentional study topics with youth outside of Sunday school lessons and confirmation classes. Adult Bible studies have recently been reintroduced to the congregation after a hiatus of thirty-plus years. Response has been encouraging, with a core of seven to eight regular participants who are joined intermittently by a few others. The desire of the participants is to continue Bible studies into the future. So far, the studies have been pastor-facilitated and explored the lives and faith of Moses and Peter. Possible future topics include other biblical characters, topics of interest, and studies of the tenets of various world religions.

Describe how your congregation is organized for ministry and mission. For example, how are decisions communicated in your church? How are teams or committees organized? Where does your church struggle for vision?

• When it comes to decision-making, how many hours are spent in meetings per month?

The average length of any meeting is ninety minutes. The Consistory and Women’s Fellowship meet monthly year-round. The Board of Christian Education and the Cabinet of Ministry meet monthly during the school year. Other boards and committees meet quarterly, or as needed.

• Think of a time when action had to be taken quickly, for example when a crisis or

disaster occurred. How was that accomplished?

1) After the flood we had to find a temporary place to worship and determine our strategy to rebuild the church building. The process was complicated further by the necessity of rebuilding our own homes and businesses. We worshiped for roughly three years in the basement chapel of a local nursing home. Members who joined during that time are still active in the congregation.

2) Twenty minutes before the start of Sunday worship the interim pastor suffered a serious medical emergency. Consistory members worked together to assist her and arrange transportation to the hospital. The consistory president informed and reassured the congregation, while the vice-president companioned the pastor to the emergency room. The vice-president regularly updated the president by phone, who in turn updated the rest of the consistory. The congregation was encouraged to contact consistory members for updates.

At the church, a congregant volunteered to deliver the pastor’s prepared sermon; she and the day’s liturgist went on to lead the service. The consistory worked with our conference minister to provide coverage for the following Sunday’s worship leadership.

• Can you provide the next minister with a copy of an organization structure, bylaws

and/or annual report to further explain the patterns of the church’s activity and governance?

Yes.

Describe the range of occupations of working adults in the congregation:

We have a wide variety of occupations, from part-time retail workers to lawyers and company owners. A common denominator is that everyone worked hard for what they have and appreciates the value of a dollar, regardless of their income.

Describe the mix of ethnic heritages in your congregation, and the overall racial make-up. Most UCC congregations tend to describe themselves as “diverse.” Yet, the vast majority of UCC congregations are mono-cultural. What does diversity mean in your context?

The congregation is predominately of Western European heritage, with some families dating back to the founding of the United States of America. Our diversity matches that of our surrounding community demographics.

Has your congregation recently had a conversation about welcoming diversity, or do you plan to hold one in the near future (perhaps using, for example, the Welcoming Diversity Inventory)? Please note the date. Comment after the exercise:

Roughly ten years ago this was a hot topic in discussion, especially regarding same-sex marriage. We are a relatively accepting congregation for all. There are no current plans to address diversity in an intentional manner.

REFLECTION Reflection: After reviewing the congregational demographics and activities above, what does this information reflect about your congregation’s overall ministry?

Attendance is slowly declining (age and church preference). Once our youth go to work or college they seldom choose to attend worship. We need a mission to encourage inactive members back to regular attendance, keep our youth involved, and attract new members.

For example, when was a time the church made a major budget change? How is the budgeting process done? What new ministry initiative has your church financed?

The budget is prepared yearly by a budget committee. The budget is then presented to the Consistory for approval. If approved, the budget is presented to the congregation for vote

3f. HISTORICAL INFORMATION Name one to three significant happenings in the history of your church that have shaped the identity of your congregation. Add the most important event in the life of your church in the past 10 years.

1) The completion of our new church building in 1997, after the 1993 flood destroyed our old town and building. The church held together during an intensely stressful four-year period, emerging into the future with renewed gratitude, hope, and vigor.

2) The first joint Church Picnic with neighboring St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. This was and is our largest fundraising event of the year. We are able to embrace similarities amidst differences to achieve something that has great effect. God is working through our parishioners to build a better community.

3) The retirement of our pastor after twenty-nine years of service.

Describe a specific change your church has managed in the recent past.

Calling of Intentional Interim Pastor in 2017, after twenty-nine years with our previous pastor. We have taken a patient, methodical approach to rediscovering who we are as a church family, and where we want to go. We are excited to meet our next settled pastor and work hard together to build our future.

Every church has conflict, some minor, some larger. “Where two or three are gathered, there will be disagreement….” Describe your congregation’s values and practices when it comes to conflict.

For example, what is an example of a recent conflict and something your congregation learned from it? Describe an occasion when your church experienced conflict without being able to resolve it well. Does your church have policies, protocols or structures for dealing with conflict?)

The largest conflict in the past five years has been the speed of the interim process. Several parishioners believe this process should be shorter. We are managing this tension by being transparent, working for great involvement (over 80% of active congregants participated in the Pastoral Search Survey), and regularly updating the congregation about progress.

Comment on what your church has learned about itself and its relationship with persons who provided ministerial leadership:

We have mutually respected the individuals providing leadership in our past. Pastor Elizabeth, Pastor Dave, Pastor June, Pastor Hedeman, and on down the historical line, have all brought their unique styles of ministry to us here in Valmeyer. This has taught us that nothing stands still in life, and we need to change and adapt to meet the changing times. On the surface is deeply-rooted character, demonstrating historical and traditional norms from the building to the congregation. Yet we are open, ready to listen, and respecting of the leadership the next settled pastor will bring to our ongoing journey.

Has any past leader left under pressure or by involuntary termination?

No Has your church been involved in a Situational Support Consultation?

No Has a past pastor been the subject of a Fitness Review while at your church?

No

4. WHO IS OUR NEIGHBOR? “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39 NRSV) a. COMMUNITY VISION b. MISSION InSite

4a. COMMUNITY VISION How do the relationships and activities of your congregation extend outward in service and advocacy?

For example, which service activities has your church participated in this past year? Where has the church participated in global connections of care and justice? What is currently transformational in your church’s engagement with neighbors near or far?

• We cooperate with the two other churches in Valmeyer on Vacation Bible School

• St. John UCC and St. Mary Roman Catholic Church hold a yearly joint Fall Church

Picnic, which has strong fundraising and mission components

• St. John UCC gathers with three other Region 2 UCC congregations for a joint Thanksgiving Eve service of worship and Holy Communion. This service rotates between church buildings and has a combined choir. Pastors from each church share leadership

• Region 2 UCC Mission meets monthly to plan activities and disseminate information. St. John UCC’s representative attends and carries back to the congregation what other Region 2 churches are doing, how we can participate, and how we can help. This information is shared with the consistory and within the congregation via bulletin board postings, weekly announcements, and monthly church newsletters

• The annual Golf Tournament is supported by church members and the community alike.

Most of the proceeds go to the church’s general fund

• Redneck Trivia is an annual church-sponsored event in which the broader community enthusiastically participates. This theme-based night of trivia benefits someone in time of need, ranging from a local individual or group, to agencies such as Wounded Warriors

Describe your congregation’s participation in meetings, relationships and activities connecting the wider United Church of Christ (association / conference / national setting).

The Interim Pastor and one of the Consistory members attended the most recent Illinois South Conference Annual Gathering. Members are also encouraged to participate at Camp DuBois as campers or staff

Many local churches love to tell the story of what they are doing in the community to transform lives. Some have identified certain aspects of their witness into the wider community using language shared with other UCC congregations. (Find more information as desired at ucc.org.) Check any statements below that apply to your UCC faith community.

__ Accessible to All (A2A) __ Creation Justice __ Economic Justice __ Faithful and Welcoming __ God Is Still Speaking (GISS) __ Border and Immigrant Justice __ Inter-cultural/Multi-racial (I’M)

__ Just Peace __ Global Mission Church __ Open and Affirming (ONA) __ WISE Congregation for Mental Health __ Other UCC designations: __ Designations from other denominations X None

Reflect on what the above statement(s) mean(s) to your community. Is your congregation interested in working toward any of the above statements of witness in the near future?

We have no current plans to do so, but future exploration is a possibility Describe your congregation’s participation in ecumenical and interfaith activities (with other denominations and religious groups, local and regional).

We work well with some of the other churches in our area, and are welcoming to all. The combined Fall Church Picnic with St. Mary Roman Catholic Church and Vacation Bible School with St. Mary and Trinity Family Church are both great examples

If your congregation has a mission statement, how does that mission statement compare to the actual time spent engaging in different activities? Think of the range of activities from time spent gathering, to governance, to time spent going out.

We do not have a mission statement, but recognize the importance of creating one

Page 27: INTRODUCING THE NEW LOCAL CHURCH PROFILE€¦ · neighbor . Who are . we . The new Local Church Profile is not just for congregations in search of a pastor. All . congregations are

LOCAL CHURCH PROFILE – 201 PAGE 26

Reflect on the scope of work assigned to your pastor(s). How is their community ministry and their ministry in and on behalf of the wider church accounted for in the congregation’s expectations on their time?

Our previous pastors have done a great job of being involved with all aspects of our own church events as well as those combined. Pastor Hedeman, Pastor June, Pastor Dave and Pastor Elizabeth are all known and well respected within the community. In the past, the Pastor was the only one involved in the conference meeting and that has expanded to more volunteers. Expectations would be to see the Pastor involved in all church activities as well as reaching out in the community

4b. MISSION InSite Comment on your congregation’s MissionInsite report with data for your neighborhood(s) or area. What trends and opportunities are shown?

The Illinois South Conference does not participate in MissionInsite, but suggests searching online for neighborhood data. An excellent place to start is the following address:

http:/www.city-data.com/city/Valmeyer-Illinois.html How do your congregation’s internal demographics compare or contrast to a) the neighborhoods adjacent to your church, and b) other neighborhoods with which your church connects?

The internal demographics of the congregation generally match those of the village of Valmeyer and the surrounding communities

How are the demographics of the community currently shaping ministry, or not?

We do not believe there is a great impact. What do you hear when you talk to community leaders and ask them what your church is known for?

Sharing Christ’s love in very tangible ways. And fish fries. (Especially the tartar sauce!)

What do new people in the church say when asked what got them involved?

6. CLOSING THOUGHTS a. CLOSING PRAYER b. STATEMENT OF CONSENT c. CONFERENCE/ASSOCIATION VALIDATION

6a. CLOSING PRAYER ______ Include here any prayer or dream for the minister you imagine journeying toward you… a poem, for example, or a Scripture passage or a piece of music that is meaningful to your Search Committee:

“Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”

—Isaiah 41:10

When we look to the future, we envision the sounds— of laughter from our youth to our seniors in worship and beyond.

We envision the sights— smiles and handshakes hugs and tears expressions of pride and determination. But most of all, we envision the feelings— of comfort and closeness among members of guidance as we follow our faith. We believe our future holds for us a pastor who envisions these moments as well. Perhaps you are that pastor. (Written by Transition Team member Abbey Hoerr)

“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”

—Jeremiah 29:11

6b. STATEMENT OF CONSENT The covenantal relationship between a church and those called by that church to serve as

pastors and teachers and in other ministerial positions is strengthened when vital information is openly shared by covenantal partners. To that end, we attest that, to the best of our abilities, we have provided information in this profile that accurately represents our church. We have not knowingly withheld any information that would be helpful to candidates.

As the committee charged with the responsibility for identifying and recommending suitable new minister for our church, we have been authorized to share the information herein with potential candidates. We understand that a candidate may wish to secure further knowledge, information, and opinions about our church. We encourage a candidate to do so, recognizing that an open exchange of relevant information builds the foundation for continuing and healthy relationships between calling bodies and persons seeking a ministry position.

6c. VALIDATION BY CONFERENCE/ASSOCIATION _____ The congregation is currently in good standing with the association / conference named.

Staff Comment: Yes St. John UCC is a wonderful congregation. I love the fun-loving spirit in this church. I know many would have liked the interim process to go more quickly. This is not uncommon as I see this in all congregations. However, I have been greatly impressed at how they have responded and worked together with their deeply gifted intentional interim. I look forward to seeing what God has in store for this congregation! To the best of my knowledge, ministerial history information is complete.

Staff Comment: Yes To the best of my knowledge, available church financial information is presented thoroughly.

Staff Comment: Yes My signature below attests to the above three items.

“Jesus answered them, ‘Have faith in God!’” – Mark 11:22 REFERENCE LETTERS

July 19, 2019 To Whom It May Concern: I am writing this letter as a reference for St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer, Illinois. Although I am not a member of this congregation, I have been involved with activities there over a span of many years. I have always viewed St. John in Valmeyer as a very community oriented church. During my thirty-five year tenure as the Vocal Music Director for Valmeyer Community Unit 3, the congregation and leadership of St. John were both always very supportive of the music program at school and were willing to help us in any way they could. Sometimes that involved loaning a piano for contests, inviting us to perform at church functions and services, or members attending music activities at school whether it was a concert, a musical or a fundraiser. They have always been very encouraging to young musicians and have tried to incorporate the young musicians in their congregation into the musical life of the church. Following my retirement from school, I began the Valmeyer Community Chorus in 2009. Once again, St. John and its members supported us by allowing us to rehearse and perform our concerts in their beautiful sanctuary. Now celebrating our tenth anniversary as a chorus, we will once again perform there in December. Also, in line with providing a space for music to thrive, St. John has allowed me to teach private piano lessons in their building for the past eleven years. I pay a small fee for this use of the building to help offset expenses. I certainly appreciate their willingness to allow me to teach there because it provides a safe and inviting atmosphere for the lessons and is easily accessible to the Valmeyer community. Finally, as music director at St. John UCC in Maeystown, I have always appreciated the willingness of both churches to be supportive of each others music and activities, as well as supporting each other in the spiritual life of both churches. The two congregations have weathered many storms together. In closing, I appreciate the congregation of St. John and the role that they play in the Valmeyer community. They are an integral part of the village. Please feel free to contact me if you need further information. Sincerely,

July 12, 2019 To Whom It May Concern, I've had the pleasure of working with many members of the St. John UCC church family during various joint events over the last 20 years. St. John members are always willing to volunteer, showing an incredibly strong work ethic and willingness to work with all members in our community. They truly embody the spirit of hard work, inclusiveness, and genuine Christian character. Sincerely, Cindy Roever Former Trustee and Parish Council Member St. Mary Catholic Church

Dear Candidate, Monroe County House of Neighborly Service is a non-profit made up of churches, schools, civic groups, and other organizations to provide services to under resourced families. House of Neighborly Service collaborates with the Valmeyer UCC church with weekly food collections, special fundraising events to support community members, help support the senior apartments in Valmeyer, Thanksgiving basket donations, adopt a family at Christmas, help support summer lunch and back to school efforts, and if there is a special event that HNS supports the Valmeyer UCC is eager to support. I have been to speak at the Valmeyer UCC church on a couple different occasions and when attending the church services the parishioners were friendly and welcoming. The church members seemed truly interested in House of Neighborly Services mission and eager to learn more about our cause. Valmeyer UCC is supportive of HNS with volunteers, goods, and finances. They even held a special trivia night to raise funds to support our outreach mission. While visiting the church one December, the children’s group had made houses for the Advent offering, which would be collected and donated to House of Neighborly Service. Each house was uniquely designed and had special meaning to each individual child. At the end of the children’s church the kids went to pass the houses out to the congregation. The children were so proud to pass out their houses. To see their pride in the project and to know they were going to be helping families in need brought such warmth to my heart. We are pleased that Valmeyer UCC is a strong partner with HNS as we work to make a difference in Monroe County and lift families who are going through life challenges. We were founded to formulate positive change and are able to do so with the generous support of the Valmeyer UCC and will continue to grow along side of them! Sincerely, Tina Charron Director, House of Neighborly Service
