SB-1000-2W UL DUAL POWERED, LOW NOISE, 2-WAY

RF DISTRIBUTION AMPLIFIER

The model SB-1000-2W UL is a high performance RF distribution amplifier designed for use in multi-dwelling units. One of the unique features of this amplifier is that if no AC voltage is available, the unit can be

powered by 60-90Vac Quasi Square Wave if present on the coaxial cable.

PATENTS PENDING

Description

PDi’s dual hybrid power doubling amplifier is housed in a wall mount aluminum case, with large heat sink fins for maximum heat dissipation. The unit is designed to support MoCA WAN. The SB-1000 has a minimum gain of +33dB. The -20dB test points are conveniently located for external measurements. The RF input incorporates a gas discharge tube, (surge arrestor), for added protection. This high performance amplifier is available with an optional return-path 22dB gain amplifier. Forward Gain and Slope controls are located beneath the metal cover to maintain maximum RFI integrity.

Don’t block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. 8. Don’t install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other

apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat. 9. Don’t defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding type plug has two blades and a

third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.

10. Protect the powers cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.

11. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer. 12. Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold

with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.

13. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time. 14. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has

been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

15. The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus.

16. WARNING – To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to rain or moisture.

17. WARNING – Terminals marked with are hazardous live and the external wiring connected to these terminals requires installation by an instructed person or the use of readymade leads or cords.

18. WARNING – If connected to mains voltage, the equipment shall be connected to a mains socket outlet with a protective earthing connection. If powered by CATV, the equipment shall be connected to a reliable earth via the external earthing connection. The integrity of the protective earth must be ensured at all times.

Line Power - 60/90Vac Quasi Square Wave PowerTheory of operation: The SB-1000-2W UL amplifier can be powered by AC line power (wall Outlet) or by (60/90Vac Quasi Square Wave), refered to in this manual as “ CATV power.”

If no AC wall outlet is available, the unit can be powered by the coaxial cable carrying the 60/90Vac source. The 60/90Vac can be inserted into the Cable In or the Forward Out connectors on the SB-1000-2W, which are interchangeable and can be configured either way, “as far as voltage is concerned” (See Shunt Settings below.) When powering the unit with the 60/90Vac,this voltage can be fed thru to power other devices down the line. SET-UP: 1. The internal panel switch must be in the CATV pwr. position. 2. The CATV pwr source shunt, (see below) Must be configured. 3. The housing must be connected to a reliable earth ground via the external ground lug. “All units are shipped in the LINE POWER position.” The following shunt settings and their descriptions:

Installation

1. Mounting Amplifier: Use the template provided to mount up the Amplifier in position.

2. AC voltage confirmation: The rated AC voltage to power the SB-1000-2W is 60~120Vac. Please check if the AC outlet is correct.

3. DC voltage confirmation: If you suspect there is a DC power issue, removed the amplifier cover. If the 24VDC LED indicator is not lit, then the unit is not receiving power.

Forward Adjustment

1. Gain Regulating Control: 0 ~ 20dB adjustable, to control the output gain. 2. Slope Regulating Control: 1 ~15dB adjustable, to adjust the required slope. 3. Selection of Plug-in Input attenuator:

The Rated Input Level is 10dBmV maximum, Input T.P. is -20dB. Adjust the Input Level with selected Forward Input Attenuator.

4. Selection of Plug-in Input Equalizer: Compensates the cable attenuation of signal before entering the amplifier. The dB value of EQ varies from 1 ~20dB, 1 dB steps.

Reverse Adjustment 1. Reverse Input Attenuator – Use this Attenuator to control the Reverse Input Level.

2. Return Amplifier – When 2-way is employed, a plug-in Return Amp, gain 22dB is required. 3. Return Amplifier Module – is a Hybrid IC Module for the SB-1000-2W UL. This module has

excellent Return Path performance. 4. Reverse Output EQ – Plug in type. To assure a stable slope in reverse output. 5. Reverse Output ATT – Plug in type. To assure a stable reverse output level. 6. Attenuators – Forward/Reverse Input/Output attenuators are of the same series /specification
