E. Coli

Rod shaped bacteria that is found in some

animals stomachs to help digest

food.

Other types of E.Coli can cause food poisoning.

Streptococcus

Sphere shaped bacteria.

Different species cause sickness like

strep throat and pneumonia,

Amoeba

Blob-like protists that live in fresh water

(lakes,ponds)

Some types cause Amoebic dysentery

Euglena

Protist found in water that is able to make food from sunlight

(perform photosynthesis) and use a long tail-like structure

(flagella) to move.

Paramecium

Protist that lives in water and uses little hair-like

structures (called cilia) to move.

Dinoflagellates

Aquatic protists responsible for red tides and some can

glow in the dark when disturbed.

Penicillium

Fungus that grows on bread,

fruit, and cheese. One species is

involved in making the antibiotic,

Penicillin, that is used routinely to

kill bacteria.

Yeast

Fungi that is used in and wine

making.

Diatoms

Microscopic glass-like algae that live

in the world’s river, lakes, &

oceans.
