Dear ECI FBLA Chapter:
Welcome back to another school year! I hope that each one of you had a great summer vacation. Now that the school year has
begun, it is time to get back to business and prepare for another tremendous year with ECI FBLA! I hope that you will take
advantage of the many benefits that come with membership and that you will be able to use our FBLA chapter for networking as
well as preparing for your future. This year is sure to be overflowing with endless opportunities that we all can take advantage of.
I am confident that you will be able to benefit from everything that happens in our chapter this year.
As members, we are at different stages in our FBLA careers. Some of us are utilizing our FBLA experiences as we prepare for the
future, while others are finding out what FBLA is all about. No matter what the stage, it is more important to take full advantage
of the opportunities provided by this chapter. By being highly involved, we will not only improve the community and school,
increase our leadership skills and develop business knowledge, but we will step up to the challenges of FBLA and hold strong.
Our Chapter has a bright future ahead and each one of us has the potential to enlighten it.
I look forward to working with every single one of you this year to help accomplish your dreams. We are all crucial in making the
ECI FBLA Chapter what it is today. We are dreamers, leaders, helpers, partners and winners: but most of all, we are family. I
appreciate all of your hard work and dedication towards the 2018-2019 membership year and dare you to make it better than last

CHAPTER PROFILE
Foundation of the ECI FBLA Chapter The chapter was first organized in 1963 by adviser, Mrs. Annie
Jo Cowart. Shortly after, the chapter was considered inactive. However, in 1983, under the guidance of
Mrs. Dorothy Gay, the chapter was reactivated. In the late 1980s, Mrs. Annie Jo Cowart, once again
became the adviser. ECI FBLA chapter became very successful, even winning the coveted Chapter of the
Year in 1989. In 2013, Mrs. Stefanie Mason became adviser of the chapter. Mrs. Mason led the chapter to
many successes. Through her devotion to the chapter and to FBLA, Mrs. Mason was awarded Georgia
FBLA Adviser of the Year in 2014. In 2015, Mrs. Jessica Smith returned to her alma mater to become
the FBLA adviser. Mrs. Smith was thrown into the world of FBLA for the first time ever. Mrs. Smith was
determined to bring success to the chapter, and she did just that. ECI was recognized as a Superior
Chapter in the Georgia FBLA Chapter of the Year Program for the first time in many years and was also
awarded the Hollis and Kitty Guy Gold Seal Chapter award. The chapter also received second place in
Largest Market Share. For the first time in the chapter’s history it achieved 100 members. Mrs. Smith
continues to strive for success in all aspects. Through her hard work and endless dedication, ECI’s FBLA
Chapter is sure to Emerge into the world!
Size of School and Community ECI is a unit

Chapter officers are always seeking new ways to add members. The adviser, chapter officers, and members work
diligently to recruit new members. Various tactics that ECI FBLA uses to recruit members are: announcements,
meetings, FBLA-PBL Week, Rush Week, informational booths at Open House, FBLA presentations, and many
other activities.
FBLA Brochures Officers and members create brochures throughout the year to promote FBLA. Brochures are
handed out at PTO meetings, given during the school day, put in the front office, and posted around the school.
Many students look at the brochures to learn about activities, upcoming events, and general information about
FBLA.
Membership Drives During FBLA Week this year, ECI held a membership drive. For a limited time, prospective
members could pay $10 to become a member. The chapter gained many new members from this drive.
Announcements Upcoming activities are announced through the school PA system through the process of ECI
Announcements. A specific announcement form must be completed by the chapter adviser and turned in for the
announcement to distribute to students and staff. Every morning and afternoon a student from the Audio Visual Club
reads the announcements to the entire school over the PA system. On special occasions, FBLA members read the
announcements. The announcements are also posted on the school’s Facebook page daily. Adviser, Mrs. Jessica Smith
has also created a Remind101 account, where she is able to send out reminders, information about upcoming events,
and keep members informed while they are not on school campus.
FBLA Week FBLA-PBL Week is celebrated the second week of February. ECI utilizes FBLA-PBL Week to advertise
and bring awareness to the organization. Twin City mayor, Mrs. Eileen Dudley, came to ECI to sign our proclamation
declaring the week of February 5-9 as FBLA Week. Each day during the week, members are rewarded with fun
activities and treats for being a member of FBLA. Activities include: Member Appreciation Day, Teacher
Appreciation Luncheon, and Blue/ Gold out for FBLA on Friday. During this time, those students who are not
members are eager to join to get in on the fun action and soak in all that ECI FBLA has to offer.
FBLA Presentations Members of the chapter often create presentations for chapter meetings, school board meetings,
Rotary Club meetings, local civic groups, advisory meeting, and PTSO. Presentations are used as ways to recruit new
members and to educate the public on the importance of FBLA and the benefits of becoming involved. This year, ECI
FBLA was invited to attend a meeting of the Emanuel County Rotary Club. At this meeting, members were provided
a delicious meal and were given the opportunity to speak with the Rotary Club members on the importance of FBLA
in schools, the community and why everyone should get involved. By sharing this information with the Rotary
members, ECI FBLA was able to gain many Professional Division Members.
Dress Down Days One great way to recruit new members for our chapter is through the implementation of dress down
days. ECI is a uniform school in which students are not allowed out of dress code unless the privilege is earned. ECI
FBLA members are given the opportunity to receive dress down tickets as appreciation of being a member. This is
also used as an incentive in order for new members to join.
Informational Booths at Open House The ECI FBLA officer team set-up an informational booth at Open House on
July 30, 2018. The officers were required to dress in their officer attire for the duration of Open House. The officers
were instructed to hand out informational packets, brochures and activity lists, all while answering questions from
parents, potential members, and new students. Adviser, Mrs. Jessica Smith, was on hand to collect dues for members
who were ready and eager to join. The officer team encouraged students to become active members of the ECI FBLA
chapter.

Recruitment
8
One of the nine goals of FBLA is to develop competent, aggressive business leadership. ECI FBLA members are
encouraged to develop leadership skills and unlock their potential to be a leader through various activities and
conferences with FBLA.
Leadership Workshops At many conferences our chapter has attended, members are required to attend many
leadership workshops. These workshops promote leadership development and establish a sense of positive leadership
in members of FBLA. Workshops ECI FBLA has attended include: team building, learning new activities for the
chapter and meetings and proper business etiquette.
Officer Meetings Officers frequently meet to plan out upcoming events. Over the summer, the newly elected officer
team attended the Summer Leadership Officer Training Summit (SLOTS). During this meeting, officers were able to
collaborate with officers from other schools in training workshops. These training sessions assist the officers in
developing skills on how to lead the chapter as an officer. The team also meets once per month to discuss activities
and plan events.
Officer Attire The officer team established a professional attire to wear while at conferences and other chapter
functions. The attire consists of khaki pants and a black officer team collared shirt. Officers are required to wear this
attire during meetings and other social gatherings when Official Dress is not required.
Business Achievement Awards ECI FBLA encourages members to take part in the BAA Program. For members to
receive cords upon graduation, members must complete the Future and Business Levels. Also, through participation
in the BAA program, members are held accountable for completing community service projects, creating documents
for FBLA, participating in fundraisers, and much more! This year our chapter implemented BAA work days. Members
can come afterschool to work on the various activities. Also, all of the business classes work on BAAs throughout the
week as assignments.
Chapter Officer Selections Candidates who wish to become officers of the chapter, must achieve three checkpoints
when applying for a position. Each candidate is required to complete an application stating his/her qualifications and
reasons for wanting to be an officer. Then, the applicant must have two recommendations from a teacher who feels
that the candidate would make a positive impact on the chapter and organization. Last, the candidate must pass an
inspection of grade averages throughout his/her high school years. The applicant must obtain and maintain at least a
B average to be eligible for a position.

Facilitating the transition from school to work is one of the goals of FBLA. ECI is accomplishing this goal by preparing
members for a business career and the conversion that they will undergo after graduation. ECI strives to make a
difference in each of its members.
College Tour ECI FBLA students explore many college opportunities. Members were given the chance to visit East
Georgia State College and Southeastern Technical College.
Guest Speakers Throughout the school year, the chapter invited many different guest to speak to officers and
members. Emanuel County Board of Education member, Mr. Bill Rogers attended a chapter meeting on September
26, 2018. Mr. Rogers spoke to members about the importance of Career and Technical Student Organizations in high
schools. In addition, Mrs. Cherie Hooks, National FBLA Southern Region Board Member, was invited to attend the
End of the Year Program. Mrs. Hooks spoke to members on the importance of FBLA and how these are the days they
will remember. ECI has also had Mr. Rusty Lane, local business owner, speak to member at a chapter meeting on
November 12, 2018 for American Enterprise Day.
Business Dress Days Members are required to wear business attire at select chapter meetings. Officers model the
FBLA official dress while members wear appropriate professional attire. During the meeting, members are presented
with the proper guidelines for professional dress. This creates knowledge of how to dress appropriately in the world
of business. The school administration and faculty love the professional atmosphere the chapter brings to the school
during the business dress days!
Annual FBLA Trip In May, the ECI FBLA chapter, along with FFA toured Criders Poultry. Members could see
firsthand the daily operations of the business. Mr. Crider informed members of the many employment opportunities
within the company. Students are also given the opportunity throughout the year to attend job fairs at our local college.
Washington, DC Trip Members who attended the National Leadership Conference in June were given the
opportunity to visit the United States Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, the Smithsonian, as well as take pictures in from of
the White House.

Participating in fundraisers helps the ECI chapter be successful. This year, the chapter has participated in several
drives and fundraisers to earn money for the chapter. Fundraisers allow the chapter to cover costs of many upcoming
conferences and events that the chapter will be attending.
Cake Raffle ECI FBLA kicks off the year with a cake raffle. The cake is donated by a local baker. Potential members
are given the opportunity to sell fifteen tickets to pay for their membership. This is a great tactic that is used to help
membership numbers. The chapter gained nineteen members by doing this.
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Twice each year members participate in a Krispy Kreme Doughnut fundraiser. Members
are given a goal to sell fifteen boxes of doughnuts each. If members achieve this goal, they earn a trip to George L.
Smith State Park for a fun social meeting at the park which includes kayaking. This fundraiser is one of the most
successful fundraisers for the chapter. On average, the chapter makes approximately $1,800 each time.
Chapter T-Shirts Every year the chapter designs a t-shirt to be worn in support of FBLA throughout the year. Shirts
cost the chapter $7 and are sold for $10. The chapter made $300 by selling the shirts.

Members, officers, and the adviser of the ECI FBLA chapter work endlessly to promote the chapter and the
organization throughout the community. Some of the ways the chapter publicizes is through, news articles, posting to
the ECI Facebook page, bulletin boards, and newsletters.
Bulletin Boards FBLA members maintain three different bulletin boards throughout the hallways of the school.
Themes used for the bulletin boards include: school spirit, season’s greetings, educational goals, member recognition,
and FBLA promotion. Currently, two boards display all names of paid members in FBLA. For every newly recruited
member, his/her name is added to the board for recognition. Members are encouraged to update the bulletin boards
frequently in order to complete one activity on the Business Achievement Awards.
Social Media ECI FBLA created a joint Facebook account with FFA. FBLA members were added to the page where
they can obtain information, learn about upcoming events, and stay current with chapter activities. Not only are
members allowed to view the Facebook page, but parents, Professional Members, and staff are able to view the site,
as well. Along with the Facebook page, we also maintain an Instagram page to keep members and parents in contact
with what ECI FBLA has to offer!
Chapter Website The chapter maintains a webpage that allows members to stay current on events. The website
provides links to the state and national pages. Members can also find a link to the Business Achievement Awards.
School Announcements ECI FBLA utilizes morning and afternoon announcements as a way to publicize the chapter.
Announcements include: winners from conferences, upcoming events, and reminders. Members in the school are able
to be informed through this use of publicity and staff are able to learn about the many wonderful things ECI FBLA
accomplishes.
Newspaper Articles The chapter submits many articles to the local newspaper, The Forest Blade. People all over the
community are able to see the many accomplishments of the chapter. Pictures and chapter articles are frequently found
in the newspaper.
County and School Website Articles are posted on the Emanuel County School website as well the ECI school
website, the county maintained CTAE social media page, and the newly created #EmanuelInspirations webpage to
inform the public of the chapter news.
Chapter Newsletter The chapter officers publish a chapter newsletter three times per school year. The purpose of
the newsletter is to inform members of events that the chapter is participating in and upcoming events. The newsletters
are posted around the school, on bulletin boards, and given out at chapter meetings.
Radio Announcements This year, two members collaborated with WXRS Radio Jones. Calissa Mason and Lauren
Sherrod met with Mr. John Wagner in order to record spots with the station, on behalf of ECI FBLA. The two members
were featured on the radio for two weeks publicizing the chapter community service project, Weekend Blessings.

participation for one of the Business classes where all students joined FBLA.
March of Dimes: Blue Jeans for Babies ECI FBLA members have worked diligently on state and national projects.
This year, one of the national projects that the chapter participated in is Blue Jeans for Babies. This program allows
faculty, staff, students, and FBLA members to pay a small fee in order to wear jeans in November. Along with all of
ECI’s participants, other local businesses also took part in the project. The purpose of this project is to raise money in

Other Community Service Projects
One small gesture can make a huge impact. ECI FBLA strives to make a positive impact on our community and its members.
Throughout the year, the chapter participates in numerous community service projects to support local businesses and individuals.
Nursing Home In the winter, the chapter traveled to the Twin View Nursing Home in Twin City to deliver Christmas items to
the residents. FBLA collected the items for three weeks prior to the visit. Homeroom classes competed to have the highest
number of items. The winning class was treated to a pizza party. The chapter also collaborated with the ECI Marching Band to
perform Christmas carols for the residents. The residents loved the gifts and the interaction with the members.
Prom and Pageant Committee Members of FBLA assist the committee in decorating for each event. Members also design and
publish all programs and invitations for the events.
Athletic Department Members complete many projects for our athletic department. These include preparing and printing raffle
tickets for the baseball team, publishing the armbands for the softball team, and creating the score cards for the golf team.
School Christmas Tree Members of FBLA and FFA teamed up in November to decorate the Christmas tree in the lobby of the
school. This allowed members from both organizations to come together and work.
Counselors Office In April members were asked to create and print the certificates to be used at the middle and high school
Honors Night as well as Senior Scholarship Night. Members also created the programs for each of these events.
Weekend Blessings ECI FBLA adopted the community service project, Weekend Blessings. Weekend Blessings is a backpack
organization that provides meals to students who are in risk for food insecurity over weekends and extended breaks. The chapter
chose this project because it gives members the opportunity to serve the children in the community. Weekend Blessings is
dependent on FBLA members and volunteers to help make a difference for each child the program serves. Weekend Blessings
currently serves 223 students in Emanuel County. Several times throughout the year, members gather to pack bags for Weekend
Blessings. Approximately thirty members came to help pack 223 bags to send home with students over the weekend. The chapter
holds many fundraisers to support Weekend Blessings. One of the biggest fundraisers that FBLA members took part in was
making Christmas ornaments. The ornaments were decorated by chairmen and FBLA members, Calissa Mason and Lauren
Sherrod. Although the chapter has completed many activities with Weekend Blessings throughout the year, the chapter plans to
further the project by hosting more activities in 2019. We hope to end childhood hunger in the community one backpack at a
time!
Peanut Butter Drive This August, the chapter challenged all Emanuel County schools to a Peanut Butter War for Weekend
Blessings. The winner was determined by the school that collected the most peanut butter. Twin City Elementary was announced
as the winner of the Peanut Butter war and was awarded a trophy. There was a total of over 3,000 jars collected during this
contest! FBLA purchased each school’s winning homeroom pizza for a party.
Farm Day FBLA members from the middle and high school level team up with FFA to host Farm Day for the local elementary
school. Members plan booths and assist in the daily activities.

competitions. The chapter entered a team of three members to compete in Battle of the Chapters. The chapter also
participated in the State Service Project by entering five teams into the Monopoly Tournament. Also, participated in
the Statesman award. This award requires members to have extensive knowledge of FBLA. One member and the
adviser earned the award.

Leadership Conference. The chapter had fifteen members to compete in online testing, skills testing, and performance
