INTRODUCTION
Instrumentation Section of LPG Department is mainly responsible for planning, coordination and
execution of Preventive and breakdown maintenance schedule of Instruments and control
systems of recovery and filling plant and ensures timely completion of jobs at LPG Recovery and
Filling Plant. The instrumentation system of LPG Recovery&Filling plant includes:

CHAPTER –I
ACTIVITIES OF INSTRUMENTATION SECTION
Instrumentation section is an integral part of LPG department of Oil India Limited.
It is responsible for
Smooth and trouble free functioning of all the Instrumentation and control systems associated with recovery and Filling plants.
Installation and commissioning of any new equipment / instrument in recovery and Filling plant.
Implementation of safety related instrument as and when recommended by OISD.
Execution of various instrumentation related contract jobs under the department.
Planning & execution of day to day and annual maintenance jobs related to Instrumentation & control system.
Planning, budgeting and procurement of instrument item.
Spare parts management for maintenance of instrumentation & control system of recovery & filling plant.
Following are the objectives of the Instrument section:
Ensuing smooth running of the plant and equipment safely.
To maintain various Instrument and control system of both the plants.
To facilitate the operators / engineers for easy and safe handling of equipment.
To keep good relation and understanding with other sections of the department.
To keep good relation and understanding with other departments of the Company.
To keep good relation with the suppliers and contractors.

CHAPTER –II
GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTION FOR INSTRUMENTATION SECTION
2.01 Toolbox Meeting must be done every day after job allocation / before
starting of job.
2.02 Special PPEs relevant to the specific job must be used while doing the job.
Safety shoes must be used all the times.
2.03 Inspect each tool for damage before use. Get instruction from Supervisor, if you are unfamiliar with a tool.
2.04 Keep all tools clean. Keep the tools at their proper storage location.
2.05 Un-authorized persons should not be allowed in the working area.
2.06 Outsiders / Trainees / Visitors should be always under supervision.

SOP OF ON SITE CALIBRATION OF GAS DETECTOR (GD).
GENERAL OPERATIONS
ACTIVITY ON SITE CALIBRATION OF GAS DETECTOR (GD).

Calibrator.
iv) Standard sample gas, Nozzle for sample gas, Small hair brushfor

STEP BY STEP
PROCEDURE
1. Check the Gas detector physically and the cable gland.
2. Connect Multimeter in serieswith power supply of the Gas detector
to measure Milliamps.
3. Check any leakage voltage with Digital Multimeter.
4. Clean the Gas detector with dry cloth.
5. Use small hand brush to clean inside the cover.
6. Check powersupply tothe GD.
7. Carefully spray sample gas to GD.
8. Check 0% and 100% as per range (20% Lower Explosive Limit).
9. Check alarm condition in Control room.
10. Remove Multimeter from the Gas Detector and connect to its
Original position after calibration.

3. Loosen the mounting cover.
4. Check any leakage voltage with Digital Multimeter.

6. Use small hand brush to clean contacts and screws.
7. Check proper supply Voltage to LT with Multi meter
8. Carefully connect the digital calibrator to the LT.
9. Use pressure calibrator to generate required pressure.
10. Check 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% as per range of the LT.
11. Use dry cotton cloth to rub.
12. Close with cover after calibration of LT
13. Switch ON power supply and check the LT.

8. Carefully connect the digital calibrator to the PT.

12. Close with cover after calibration of PT
13. Switch ON power supply and check the PT.

CHAPTER- VII
SOP OF CALIBRATION OF PRE ROTATION VANE (PRV).
GENERAL OPERATIONS
ACTIVITY CALIBRATION of Pre Rotation Vane (PRV).

PREPARATION i) Wear Dungaree, helmets, and hand gloves before starting the jobs.
ii) Remove and isolate all mounting studs, Dry cleaning agents,
iii) Proper tools and equipment, Digital Pressure Calibrator, pressure
Gauge, standard pressure regulator, Air Hose, Dry Compressed air.
iv) Dry cotton clothes, proper SS straight connector, and manometer.
STEP BY STEP
PROCEDURE
1. Check the PRV and remove the mounting studs.
2. Close all pneumatic connections of PRV and dismantle.
3. Hold the PRV carefully and bring it to Workshop for calibration.
4. Remove the actuator parts for cleaning.
5. Replace all damaged O-Rings with new ones.
6. Clean the PRV parts with proper cleaning agent
7. Use small hand brush to clean sensitive parts.
8. Assemble the PRV parts as it is.
9. Give air supply to the PRV through regulator.
10. Give signal in PSI and measure the movement of the
Stem in mm.
11. Use proper Scale to measure the length of the piston stem.
12. Check 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% movement of stem as per
Supply air pressure in PSI
13. Use dry cotton cloth to rub and clean the PRV.
14. Assemble the PRV and fit back in Inlet compressor.

SOP FORCALIBRATION OF TEMPERATURE TRANSMITTER
(TT).

1. Check the TT physically and the cable gland.
2. Isolate all power supply to the TT or switch OFF or remove
Fuse.
3. Loosen the mounting cover.
4. Check any leakage voltage with Digital multi meter.
5. Clean the TT with cleaning agent
6. Use small hand brush to clean contacts and screws.
7. Check proper supply Voltage to TT with Multi meter
8. Carefully connect the digital calibrator to the TT.
9. Select type of primary sensor such as RTD, thermocouple.
10. Check 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% as per range of the TT.
11. Use dry cotton cloth to rub.
12. Close with cover after calibration of TT
13. Switch ON power supply and check the TT.

v) Dry cotton clothes.

PROCEDURE
1. Check the TT physically and the cable gland.
2. Isolate all power supply to the Temperature Switch.
3. Loosen the mounting cover.
4. Check any leakage voltage with Digital multi meter.
5. Clean the Temp. Switch with cleaning agent
6. Use small hand brush to clean contacts and screws.
7. Remove Temp. Switch and bring to Workshop for calibration
8. Carefully insert the Temp Switch to the calibration unit.
9. Use Multi meter to get the contact condition.
10. Check ON/OFF (NO/NC) of the Temp Switch at required Temp.
11. Use dry cotton cloth to rub.
12. Close the cover after calibration of Temp Switch
13. Fitted back the temp switch in its position.
14. Check the thermo well of its tightness.

6. Use dry cotton cloth to rub.
7. Check all panel instrument physically and rectify problem if found.
8. Use envelopes of conductive plastic for taking optimum
Protection in case of Electronic Items.
9. Take care of circuit board while removing particularly MOS/ CMOS
Components. Read and note down the warning label
Of the circuit boards.
10. Store all cards in proper envelopes and proper place with
Utmost care.
11. Avoid metallic surface for handling cards
12. Calibrate field Instruments as per calibration procedure.

5. Clean the area so that all will be comfortable for work.
6. Take clearance from other sections if needed.
7. Installation to be done as per OEM instruction.
8. Use all protective equipment and tools during installation.
9. Inform authorized person after erection and installation of the
instrument.
10. Test and trial run of the instrument before giving online.

PROCEDURE
1. Check control valves and positioner physically
2. Clean control valves and positioner with cleaning agent. .
3. Check air supply and maintain pressure at 35 PSI in the positioner.
4. Clean flapper –Nozzle assembly with cleaning agent.
5. Use small hand brush to clean flapper - nozzle
6. Check diaphragm of the control Valves
7. Check output of the I/P converter ( 3 psi to 15 psi )
8. Maintain and regulate 20 psi in the I/P converter
9. Observe opening /closing of control valves as per signal from the
controller
10. Adjust stem of the valve if required
11. Check for any leakage after calibration of the valve.

2. Isolate all power supply to the DCS or switch OFF power supply.
3. Put on panel ground wristband before touching the cabinet.
4. Loosen all mounting screws with screw Driver.
5. Check any leakage voltage with Digital multi meter.
6. Clean card and cabinet with vacuum pump
7. Use small hand brush to clean contacts
8. Use dry cotton cloth to rub.
9. Check all cards and cabinet physically and rectify problem if found.
10. Carefully handle the cards
11. Use envelopes of conductive plastic for taking optimum
Protection
12. Take care of circuit board while removing particularly MOS/ CMOS
Components. Read and note down the warning labelof the circuit
Boards.
13. Store all cards in proper envelopes and proper place with utmost care.

Supply voltage.
3. Check air pressure to the machine.
4. Check all air supply tubes of the machines.
5. Check bearings and chain.
6. Clean base plate and machines
7. Use small hand brush to clean CUC.
8. Use dry cotton cloth to rub.
9. Carefully handle the cards and CUC if removed.
10. Replace all damaged bearings of the machines
11. Check the tightness of chain of Dynamic check scale
12. Take care of circuit board while removing Electronic Components.
13. Read and note down the warning label of the circuit boards.
14. Store all cards in proper envelopes and proper place with utmost care.
15. Avoid metallic surface for handling cards
16. Use new bushing for balancing of the machine.
17. Calibrate the machines with Standard weight of 20 kg, 10kg.

5. Check filling head and its pin.
6. Check Tightness of hose pipe connector.
7. Balancing at the base plates of the filling machine too bechecked.
8. Clean base plate and machines
9. Use small hand brush to clean CUC.
10. Use dry cotton cloth to rub.
11. Carefully handle the cards and CUC
12. Replace all damaged O-ring of the moving/running equipments
13. Use envelopes of conductive plastic for taking optimum protection.
14. Take care of circuit board while removing Electronic Components.
15. Read and note down the warning label of the circuit boards.
16. Store all cards in proper envelopes and proper place with Utmost care.
17. Avoid metallic surface for handling cards
