● Gamification: A hot topic for many as mobile apps and games continue to command the attention of many. Rather than seeing gamification as an ‘attention grasping silver bullet’, we must focus more on instructional design and how gaming can facilitate better learning outcomes and information retention. Read our beginner's guide to gamification.

● Social learning: As more and more social platforms become popular, more organisations are looking to leverage these community style environments to drive learning and peer-to-peer development. This also taps into the 70: 20: 10 of blended learning.

● Resources/open learning: Many organisations are now exploring how to replicate the experience their learners have online within their own training environments. This focus is on providing resources rather than more structured, formal learning, often with the same subject matter developed into several different consumable forms such as videos, podcasts, ebooks, e-learning, games and more; this ensures you also meet the needs of different learning styles too.

● MOOCs: Self-driven online learning is continuing to grow as MOOCs’ popularity skyrockets, with 2015 MOOC enrollments doubling from 2014. This solidifies the continued need for organisations to have a resources approach to training delivery too, as learners become more and more accountable for their own development and progression.
