SELECTING A BOOK FOR READING

• Most books for native speakers use about 10,000 different English words. Most of you don’t know this many. Therefore, these are not good for English learners (a.k.a. ELPP students).

• I suggest you use GRADED READERS, which are books specifically made for learners.

SELECTING A BOOK FOR READING

• GRADED READERS are written for different levels. The vocabulary is easier to understand. The sentences are written a bit more simply. The grammar is more straightforward.

• Find the LEVEL of the book. It may be written on the front cover, it may be written on the back cover, it may be written on the spine, or it may be written inside the book. It may be a letter (S), it may be a number (1- 6) or it may be a word (Intermediate).

• Does this book look interesting to you?

• To return your book, give it to the librarian.

• If the librarian is absent, place it in the ‘return books’ slot in front of the librarian’s desk.
