• generationOn is the Youth Division of Points of Light Enterprise, which is the world’s largest nonprofit focused on volunteerism and service.

• The mission of generationOn is to inspire, equip, and mobilize youth to take action that changes the world and themselves through service.

generationOn Indiana • generationOn is being facilitated in Indiana

through IASP (Indiana Assoc. of School Principals) and IMLEA (Indiana Middle Level Education Assoc.) by a grant from the Lilly Endowment to help bring more philanthropy education and service-learning to Indiana students.

1. Only one registered teacher or administrator needs to register their school. 2. Check out the generationOn Schools directory to see if your school is already registered. 3. To become a generationOn Schools Service-Learning Coach just check the box when you register your school. 4. There are just two membership requirements:

A generationOn School must track at least two service-learning experiences and complete an end-of -the year survey per academic year .

Service-Learning in Action

Walkerton Elementary School remembers September 11 by exploring themes of peace and raising money to plant a Peace Pole at their school.

Maple Crest Middle School organizes a Run, Walk, Roll event and Buddy Up program and does lessons on disability awareness, inclusion, and fitness for all.

Students at the After the Bell program at Tuttle Middle School developed their own personal definitions of philanthropy and found ways to make a difference in the community.

8th graders from Creston Middle School beautified the school grounds as part of a lesson on environmental stewardship.

What are generationOn Clubs?• Groups of kids and teens, with support from adult facilitators,

who implement meaningful hands-on service projects in their communities.

Who joins generationOn Clubs? • Kids and teens form clubs in a variety of settings,

including: – schools– existing clubs (e.g. Boys and

Girls Clubs)– faith-based and community

organizations– HandsOn Action Centers

generationOn Kids Care Clubs

• For elementary school kids, ages 5-10.• Led by an adult facilitator.• Founded in 1990.• Currently over 2100

registered clubs nationally and internationally.

generationOn Service Clubs

• For middle and high school youth, ages 11-18.• Youth-led, supported by adult advisors.• Program launched in 2012.• After a successful pilot, there are currently over 200

registered clubs in 38 states.

Program Structure

Membership• Some clubs have core members who work together on all

projects. • Others allow members to choose to participate depending on

the project/event.

• Number of members is flexible and ranges from 5 to 40+ people.

Meetings• Clubs meet on a regular basis (weekly/bi-monthly/monthly).• Meetings are led by facilitators (Kids Care Clubs) or youth

leaders (generationOn Service Clubs).

Program Structure (cont.)Projects

• Members plan and implement service projects in their communities.

• After each project, clubs submit stories and photos electronically.

• Clubs must complete and submit documentation of at least two service projects and one survey per calendar year in order to maintain their membership.
