“During the Great Recession, exporters’ revenues actually grew by 37%. Exports are

responsible for nearly half of U.S. GDP growth from 2010 to 2011 and yet they only make up

13% of our GDP (less than China, EU, and Canada).”

The Metro Export Initiative

President Obama launches the National Export Initiative (NEI) with an ambitious goal of doubling U.S. exports within a five-year period.

The Brookings Institution Metropolitan Policy Program launches the Global Cities Initiative (GCI), a joint project with JPMorgan Chase.

Los Angeles selected as the first pilot MEI city. The Los Angeles Regional Export Council (LARExC) works with Brookings to develop their metro export plan.
