The ILC – Introduction to The ILC

Why Induction Lighting ?-The Benefits

THE ILC – INDUCTION LIGHTING – THE BENEFITS

You Can Reduce your Lighting Costs by over 50% - Fact

At The Induction Lighting Company we have modern solutions to combat energy costs inflation that provide REAL BENEFITS.

•You can reduce your energy costs by over 50%•You can reduce your carbon emissions by over 50%•You can reduce your CRC tax by £12 per tonne•You can reduce your lighting maintenance costs•You can improve your lighting and working environment•You do not need a capital expenditure budget•You can pay the whole costs from your energy savings

The ILC low energy carbon reduction lighting solutions can decrease carbon emissions and reduce lighting operating costs by over 50%.

Induction lamps have a lifespan of 80,000 to 100,000 hours (depending on type and model), compared to 45,000 to 50,000 hours claimed for LED lamp life spans.

However, and most importantly, the induction ballasts have a 80,000 hour lifetime whilst the power supply units for LED lamps are around 20,000 to 30,000 hours at the present time.

This makes a simple life time choice in favour of the induction lamp.

There are NO lighting filaments as in traditional lamps and the elimination of filaments and electrodes results in a lamp of unmatched life. Lasting 80,000 hours or 25 years, this solution has a lifetime greater than

Two LED lamp changesfive HID, eight metal halide, or eight typical fluorescent lamp changes.

THE ILC – INDUCTION LIGHTING – THE BENEFITS

BENEFITS -REDUCED ENERGY COSTS > 50%

In general terms and subject to the lighting design •A 120 Watt induction lamp will replace a 250 Watt metal halide lamp•A 150 Watt induction lamp will replace a 300 Watt metal halide lamp•A 200 Watt induction lamp will replace a 400 Watt metal halide lamp•A 300 Watt induction lamp will replace a 500/600 Watt metal halide lamp

Importantly, and additionally, Induction Lighting reduces energy costs along with the benefit of increased lifetime.

BENEFITS –REDUCED OPERATING COSTS > 50%•Increased lumens – brighter, uniform light•5 year warranty – RoI > 4 over warranty period•Payback <2 years•Carbon savings – platform for green strategies•Easy point for point replacement•Lowest life time costs•Reduced failures•Minimal maintenance

THE ILC – INDUCTION LIGHTING – THE BENEFITS

BENEFITS –REDUCED CRC ENERGY TAXThe government has proposed that the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme becomes a flat charge of £12 per tonne of CO2 emissions and that the revenue-neutral payment recycling element has been scrapped.

Section 2.108 of the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) excluded Local Authorities from the CRC scheme but this has changed and it is expected that “practical measures immediately to reduce carbon emissions, and in particular consider those from their schools”.  BENEFIT - in general our solutions are compliant under the Government’s ECA scheme and will have huge cash flow benefits in the year of purchase.

Induction lighting cuts Carbon Emissions and Reduces Costs and provides compliance with ECA and CSR

“Fuel costs are up by almost 10 per cent”  (Royal Bank of Scotland Research - Dec 08 2011 Hunter Ruthven)

“Lighting is essential for carrying out your daily business activity but it can account for up to 40% of your operation’s total electricity bill” (Carbon Trust Figure).

“ A 20% cut in energy costs represents the same bottom line benefit as a 5% increase in sales”(Carbon Trust Figure).

THE ILC low energy carbon reduction lighting solutions can decrease carbon emissions and reduce lighting operating costs by over 50%. (The Induction Lighting Company)

THE ILC – WE REDUCE YOUR ENERGY COSTS

Induction lighting is a type of electrode-less lamp, where the light source is generated by means of electromagnetic fields or induction.

Induction lighting is similar to conventional fluorescent lamp technology in the way that UV is converted to visible light with the use of phosphors (e.g., mercury in the amalgam is vaporised and is electrically excited to produce short-wave ultraviolet light, which then excites the phosphors coating the interior of the lamp to produce visible light), as shown in the figure. The unusual shape of an induction lamp maximizes the efficiency of the fields that are generated providing 50% more light for the same power usage.

The lamp life is only limited by the life of the electronic components Induction lamps offer a lamp life of 80,000 hr to 100,000 hr.

There are NO lighting filaments as in traditional lamps

Product Applications

Luminaires are CE, RoHS, FCC, UL, certified and comply with EU directives and design standards.

The ILC – A Low Energy Range of Induction, LED, LCD, & T5 Lighting

A broad range of interior and exterior applications can benefit from induction lightingExternally, these include area lighting for municipal streets, parks, campuses, parking garages, and tunnels. Induction lighting has also been very effective as a light source on offshore oil rigs because of its stability, long life, and high resistance to vibration. Interior atria spaces with high ceilings, such as industrial low-bay/high-bay settings, and two-story retail spaces and airport concourses.

Other general lighting applications, include but are not exclusive to ,exterior signage installations based on the -25°C starting temperature (large box signage especially), covered parking facilities, decorative post-top street lights, and exterior-mounted security lights. Other successful interior installations have occurred in tunnels, gyms, food production areas, and arenas. In addition, the technology is well-suited to cold storage applications like walk-in freezers and unconditioned warehouses, where induction lighting can be combined with occupancy sensors for maximum efficiency.

The I L C – PROJECT 2 Food Processing Warehouse

For a recent and ongoing project in the food processing sector 5000 400watt Sodium and HQI high energy lamps are to be replaced with 200 Watt KERS Induction lamps.

Based on electricity prices (May 2011) a saving of £895,855 per year (£74,655 per month) on energy costs will accrue- an energy saving of £4,479,274.50 over 5 years.

Capital Investment OptionFor an outright capital investment of £1.6 million ECA tax benefits of 25% in the first year will also accrue under the energy efficiency scheme.

Thus providing a Pay Back on Investment over 1.33 years and ongoing benefits of £895,854.90 per annum thereafter from reduced fuel costs alone.

The I L C – PROJECT 3 Food Processing Production Area

Lease Purchase OptionHowever, to avoid such a massive upfront cash outlay TILC have negotiated a lease purchase option:-

• Lease cost per month for 5 years £33,520• Fuel saving per month £74,654• Cash flow benefit per month for 5 years £41,136 At the end of the 5 year lease period the full £74,136 per month fuel benefit accrues - £895,854.90 per annum from the reduced fuel costs alone.

The monthly rental premiums are tax allowable at the company’s 25% corporation tax rate, reducing the gross £33,520 to £25,140

The I L C – PROJECT 3 Food Processing Production Area

Carbon and CRC Tax SavingsThe Carbon emission reduction based on the above equates to 6,116 tonnes per annum

Under current CRC tax rates this equates to a real saving of £73380 per annum

Maintenance SavingsHistorical costings show that the existing traditional lighting lamps have cost the company a sum of £17 per lamp per annum in replacement costs. This will be mitigated by the Induction lamps and will save a further £85,000 per annum

The I L C – PROJECT 3 Food Processing Production Area

The ILC were invited to review and design the high bay lighting for a warehouse which was using metal halide lamps.

A survey was completed and a comparison was delivered between the existing metal halide lighting and proposed replacement ILC induction lamps

Low Energy Lighting Solutions - A Basic Comparison

Overview of Lighting Usage in Various Sectors The ILC – Low Energy Lighting - Basic Comparisons

Metal Halide or Induction? Costs and Energy SavingsThe ILC – Low Energy Lighting - Basic Comparisons

Q? Metal Halide luminaires are cheaper to install initially than the equivalent light emitting Induction luminaire. When do I realise a pay back using Induction?

A The example across compares a 400W MH and a 200W Induction luminaire. The operating wattages are 440W and 205 W respectively and it is this much reduced energy pull that will provide the pay back.

The induction lamp benefits financially from ECA tax relief after which the average price difference is circa £35.

The costs to run the Induction are more than 50% cheaper and it is this cost benefit that contributes to mitigate the initial more expensive investment.

In the example, depending on the hours of operation, the pay back cross over period varies between 10 to 14 weeks – thereafter the costs benefits accrue for the 8 years of the induction lamp expected life.

LifetimeLEDs are promoted as the best alternative to conventional lighting due to their longevity. At The ILC we question and challenge this! The chart below shows the typical lifespan for the most frequently used types of commercial/industrial lamp types

Induction lamps have a lifespan of 80,000 to 100,000 hours (depending on type and model), which is essentially twice that claimed made for LED lamp life spans. However, and most importantly, the induction ballasts last the lifetime of the lamp whilst the power supply units for LED lamps are around 10,000 to 20,000 hours at the present time. This makes a simple life time choice in favour of the induction lamp.

Q? What is the difference between Photopic and Scotopic light output from lamps? A Early lighting technology measured light outputs “lumen outputs” using a light meter which only reads a limited part of the spectrum and this provided a “photopic” measure of the light output. However, the eye, assesses a much broader part of the spectrum and “reads” a much higher “lumen output” than a simple meter. This is the “Scotopic” measure of light

Q? Is the Scotopic effect advantageous to Induction lamps? A YES – Research has shown that the light emitted by an induction lamp has a higher Scotopic to Photopic ratio(S/P) ratio than other lighting technology outputs, thus further enhancing the benefits of Induction lighting relative to other technologies
