Reading the Output, Trends

Trend direction is given in the TREND column. These trends are for the time period 1998-2003. All Causes, Diseases of the Heart, and Malignant Neoplasms were all trending down (p < 0.05) for Pierce. Alzheimer’s disease and Diabetes were trending up. <n/s> means non-significant. Trend rates may not be reliable when the average count over the trend years falls below 5, and would be listed in the table as “avCnt<5”.

Reading the Output, SigDiff

Significant difference (SigDiff) between Primary and Comparison groups are given. The rate for heart disease death in Pierce county was 15.71% higher than the state. <n/s> means there were no significant differences between Pierce and Washington. If the number in the significant difference column was negative, it would mean the rate was less than the comparison group.
