Courses and exams – general information

• Each lecture course will be followed by an exam. The form of the exam (written or oral) is defined by the respective institute. Duration: written exam – 60-120 minutes, oral exam – 30 minutes.

• You don’t need to register officially for lectures, however registration to exams is obligatory.

• Attendance at lectures and practical exercises to the lectures are not obligatory but strongly recommended for the successful completion of a course

• Attending and actively participating in all the experiments of the laboratory “Mechatronics Lessons” is obligatory for all the students.

• Grades in German system: 1.0 – best grade, 4.0 – worst pass grade, 5.0 – exam failed. Between 1.0 and 4.0 the grades are given in steps: 1.0, 1.3, 1.7, 2.0, …4.0.

• All the scripts to the lectures, documentation to the practical exercises and laboratories as well as the organization information can be found in Stud-IP

• Please assign yourself to one group in the Stud.IP-course

• The schedule for the lab’s will follow when the grouping is finished

• Please gather 5min before the lab starts in front of the secretary’s office of the institutes

Topics of the Laboratories: Ball-on-Plate

Floating-Ball-Test

PLC-Controlled Rack Storage and Retrieval System

Kinematic Calibration of a Planar Parallel Roboter

Implementation of an Impedance Controller for a Joint

Your knowledge will be tested before and after each experiment. Please follow the instructions of the laboratory supervisor for details about how to prepare the experiments and writing the lab reports. If one experiment is missed or failed, the whole laboratory course will be failed!

Project Thesis at Leibniz Universität Hannover

• Project thesis is a research project with the credit amount = 5 CP. The size and the format of the thesis is defined by the supervisor.

• You are supervised by a research assistant of an institute of Leibniz Universität Hannover. You can choose topics freely from institutes of the Faculties for Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

• The project thesis needs to be registered. The registration is normally performed by the supervisor. Please find the registration form here:

https://www.uni-hannover.de/de/studium/im-studium/pruefungsinfos-fachberatung/international-mechatronics/formulare/

• The results of the project thesis will be evaluated by the professor of the respective institute

• It is strongly recommended to begin the search of the project thesis topic from the very beginningof the winter semester!

• The topic of the project thesis and of the master thesis don’t have to be similar. The supervisors and the institutes can also be completely different.

Master‘s Thesis: Deadlines/Search of the topic

Choosing the theme for the master’s thesis

The master’s thesis has to be agreed upon with the Polytechnic University of St. Petersburg

(Prof. Shkodyrev, Control Systems and Technology Department) in the following items: Theme of the project

Names of the supervisors from the Polytechnic University St. Petersburg and from Leibniz Universität Hannover

Advice 1: Please consider your research work theme that you have been working on in SPbPU

Advice 2: in case you can’t contact your supervisor from Polytechnic University St. Petersburg please contact Elena Selivanova

Please send to SPbPU by e-mail your preliminary theme of the project and name of supervisor from Leibniz Universität Hannover by November 15, 2019

Decision on the Master’s degree theme: December 1, 2019

Final approval of Master’s degree theme – February 15. 2020

Reason: The topics for the master’s theses have to be sent to the Russian Ministry of Education in February.

Master‘s Thesis: Deadlines/Presentation

Developing of the master’s thesis

• The master’s thesis are entirely developed at Leibniz Universität Hannover at the chosen institute under supervision of a professor and a scientific assistant from that institute

• The registration (“Anmeldung”) of the theme of the master’s thesis at the examination office is performed usually by the supervisor (scientific assistant). Please see the next page for information about the first and the second examiner in the registration form

• Maximal/minimal duration of the master’s thesis development: 6/3 months

Seite 19

Master‘s Thesis: Supervisors and registration (formal)

Registration form

• The registration form can be downloaded under https://www.uni-hannover.de/de/studium/im-studium/pruefungsinfos-fachberatung/international-mechatronics/formulare/

• The first examiner is the professor of the respective institute of Leibniz Universität Hannover At which the master thesis is being developed

• The second examiner is the professor of the Polytechnic University of Saint-Petersburg (e.g. Shkodyrev)

Student of International Mechatronics

Master‘s Thesis: Deadlines/Presentation

Presentation of the master’s thesis

• Presentation has to be held in the Polytechnic University of St. Petersburg in English or Russian language. Presentation at the Leibniz Universität Hannover is not obligatory but recommended (presentation language: English or German)

• Deadline for completing all the curriculum (including laboratory, project thesis and all exams) at the Leibniz Universität Hannover : 1 month before the Master thesis presentation.

Reason: all the exams have to be entered onto the transcripts of records in time for the master thesis presentation

• At Polytech St. Petersburg you’ll have to pass the interdisciplinary exam, complete some formalities and perform the presentation: approximately 1 month is required (min. 2 weeks)

Advice: please contact Elena Selivanova for the detailed information about the preparation to the interdisciplinary exam

Seite 22

What happens if…

• An exam was failed during the winter exam session

The second attempt will take place in the summer exam session (end of July - September). As far as the most exams are oral it shouldn’t be a problem to choose a earlier time for this exam

The exam must be passed with this second attempt, otherwise no master degree from the Polytech St. Petersburg will be awarded

• In case the master thesis presentation is strongly recommended by the professor of the respective institute of the Leibniz Universität Hannover, but it can’t be held in August (e.g. professor is not there):

In this case the master thesis presentation can be held first in St. Petersburg and than (on returning to Germany) in Hannover

If the study at the Leibniz Universität Hannover will be extended to October 2020 the semesters fees have to be payed for winter semester 2020/2021
