Inventory Structure
Movement from a warehouse to a non-inventory position (scrap) is accomplished with one transaction. A warehouse transfer generates two transactions, one "from" the warehouse to an intermediate G/L account, the second from the intermediate G/L account "to" the receiving warehouse. On Hand is always calculated (except in the Lot Master) as Beginning Balance + Receipts + Adjustments - Issues. If you are in a lot environment and you think potency may be applicable, the white circles within the inventory item on the graph can be used to illustrate potent units.

Page 4

Major Features
The sum of inventory in the locations equals the total of the inventory in the warehouse. The sum of the warehouses equals the total at the product master level. Lots may be located across multiple locations and warehouses Skid tickets may be used as a base for "license plate" data collection. Essentially, when a transaction is performed, a ticket number is generated or updated and this ticket number is used to perform subsequent transactions. Physical Inventory and Cycle Count is not covered in this course. Inventory may be transacted in any defined unit of measure. An example might be that a unit of measure is each but as goods are manufactured they are stacked in skids. The reporting of production could be performed in skids or each.

Major Features
Potency is a method of tracking the inventory of an item in a unit of measure other than its standard unit of measure. While solutions immediately come to mind, there may be other applications, such as cut to length when you do not want to have each length a different product number. Active Ingredients (potent items) may be stocked in either their physical unit of measure or their active ingredient unit of measure and inquiries may be performed either way. Cycle Test Dates prompts the potency testing of lots in cycles of the number of days specified for that product.

Inventory Control

Master File Maintenance Programs

SYSTEM CONTROL (WCMANT)

TRANSACTION MASTER (IN0800)

Defines the transaction code, how that code can be used, and whatimpacts it has.

WAREHOUSE MASTER (MS0803)

Defines the logical warehouse and if it is hidden from MRP and/orMPS

WAREHOUSE INVENTORY (IN0801)

Can define material planning and costing parameters unique to aproduct/warehouse combination.

LOT MASTER (MS0809)

Can define a lot ID, its allowable product number, and general infosuch as shelf life and expiration date, potency, and ability to allocateto customer order or work order

BIN MASTER (MS0810)

Defines valid bin locations within a warehouse

CODE ID MAINTENANCE (MS0840) 8 .3

Where unit of measure codes are created and maintained

Page 10

Master Files
The warehouse inventory file and the lot master are automatically built by transactions. They may be optionally embellished to provide additional functionality. Code ID Maintenance is where the unit of measure is defined. In order to define or change a unit of measure, the user profile must be authorized to add or change that "code type". In this case, the "code type" is Unit of Measure.
Page 12: Inventory Control in PRMS - Electriced.com Control Sample.pdf · Inventory Control in PRMS Master Production ... Sample Agenda i Attendance Sheet ii ... VMI Forecast Report (VM0120)

Inventory Control

Master File Maintenance Programs

QUANTITY ROUNDING TABLE MAINTENANCE(MS0828)

Establishes rounding parameters by unit of measure and optionallyproduct

UNIT OF MEASURE TABLE MAINTENANCE (MS0827)

Establishes alternate units of measure for the inventory system andthe conversion properties by unit of measure and optionally product

PRODUCT MASTER MAINTENANCE (MS0825)

Identifies if the product requires lot number assignment ontransactions and if the item is processed as an active ingredient

PRODUCT STRUCTURE MAINTENANCE (PS0021)

Identifies if the item is an active ingredient or filler item and itsallowable potency limits for that assembly

Page 12

Master Files
If rounding parameters are not maintained, you may see inventory quantities carried to the third decimal position (1.037). Rounding maintenance will help control this and can be established by unit of measure or specific product. 8.3 added the ability to define alternate units of measure by product class in addition to unit of measure and product specific.

System Control
When discussing the System Control, use System Control Inquiry (WCINQ) from your projection panel. If you get stuck you can always use the Help key for an on line definition of the parameter. Recognize that maintaining inventory levels at a lot or location level is far more complex than maintaining inventory at a warehouse level. This is a very important decision for your company.

Even though PRMS states that it supports Actual Costing, it is very poor. The same goes for costing by warehouse. While you can set different costs for a product when it resides in different warehouses, recognize that there is no function to update these values from new product cost updates. The Order Entry module is relatively sophisticated in its allocation processing to customer orders. The manufacturing module is very poor in allocations. Essentially, you may allocate by lot but if lots are not used there is no automatic allocation routines based on available inventories in specific locations. The only alternative is the Consolidated Pick function for repetitive items. 8.3 added the ability to use different lot allocation logic for components handled by the Consolidated Pick than for components with discrete picks in manufacturing.

AFFECT RECEIPTS

AFFECT ADJUSTMENTS

AFFECT SALES

For transactions that ship product against customer orders, this flagwill be used to determine if the MTD and YTD sales figures inProduct Master, Warehouse Inventory and Lot/Bin files are updated

MULTIPLE ISSUE TRANSACTION

There is a method to post and issue production materials withouthaving Shop Floor Control turned on. Under these conditions, awork order (without a router) can be created. To post to stock, themultiple issue transaction is used via Inventory Transactions(IN0021). The work order number is given as the reference numberand the release number as the release. The transaction is definedwith an "Issue Transaction". The hard bill of materials for theposted item is read and issue transactions are created for all thecomponents with the "Issue Transaction". This is a pre-version 7function.

Page 28

Transaction Master
Defining a transaction code can be very confusing. Some hints; The affect Beg Balance, Receipts, Issues, and Adjustments flags determine what part of the on hand equation does this transaction effect. Multiple Issue and Issue Trans for Mult Issue is only used if Shop Floor Control is turned off in System Control and a basic backflush of material components is desired. From here on through all the maintenance functions you will probably want to use the projection of actual screens instead of the transparencies.

Both MPS and MRP know to look at corporate inventories as well as plant inventories depending on the relationship here or overridden at the Warehouse Inventory level. What is a warehouse and how many will you have? A big decision. Try to keep it simple. The more warehouses you have, the more areas of responsibility.
