Nipple retraction is Congenital. Correction is for Cosmetic reasons. It is a complex operation where the ducts have to be preserved and the fibrous bands severed to correct the pulling force.

ISSUES

Will the everted nipple stay or re retract?

Nulliparous….will she be able to breast feed?

Left Inverted Nipple with fibroadenomas both breasts

Lumps and periareolar incisions marked preoperatively

Excised fibroadenoma and dissection for ducts/tethering bands

Sutures to pull at everted nipple, splint to keep it in position

Splint can be lifted to inspect, retained for 3 weeks

Satisfactory after 3 weeks

After 6 mths

Good projection

Periareolar scar mingling in surroundings
