INVESTING IN A HEALTHY LENAWEE COUNTY

Keeping health care local and of the highest quality is the goal of this campaign to build a new, innovative hospital and wellness campus.

It’s the most important local project in my lifetime and it’s why I agreed to lead the fundraising effort. Every one of us who lives in Lenawee County or has loved ones in the area will benefit. It’s that simple.

The new campus will give our community its first-ever wellness destination. Our families and friends will have improved access to nutrition education, exercise resources and state-of-the-art care like they never have before.

Please join me in creating a healthy Lenawee County by supporting this campaign with a financial gift. Thank you for your consideration.

INTRODUCING A NEW BLUEPRINT FOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS IN LENAWEE COUNTY

We believe an individual’s health is rooted in their community. This is because vibrant communities offer resources and opportunities that promote personal health and contribute to a positive cycle of wellness for the community.

Likewise, our plan for improving the health of Lenawee County is rooted in providing resources and opportunities. We envision building a campus that will drive the local economy while delivering state-of-the-art medical care and being the home to new wellness and community services.

This campus will be more than the sum of its parts. It will serve as a community hub that touches residents of all ages and promotes a higher quality of life. And, it is being built with a new model of collaboration between ProMedica and the community.

It is an exciting plan that will set a new standard for health and wellness in Lenawee County.

Bringing Our Blueprint to Life: Generations of CareWe will create a new destination for health and medical care for all ages through Generations of Care: Investing in a Healthy Lenawee County.

The project will create a new center of development in Lenawee County and underpin other county efforts to make Lenawee a more attractive community for recruiting/retaining business, talent and residents.

KEY BENEFITS OF GENERATIONS OF CAREImproved health and wellness is the number one goal and we will get there by:

• Creating a local destination for critical programs and services on a campus designed for the future.

• Building a regional medical facility that is user-friendly, easier to access and more visible to residents.

• Aligning services with the population’s health problems and serving all generations from birth to aging.

• Allowing for future growth and alignment with related industries such as senior care and retail.• Improving our ability to recruit and retain top-notch physicians and staff.

• Serving as a driver for economic development by employing hundreds and attracting new businesses and residents to the area.

PROJECT DETAIL

The YMCA has served the people of Lenawee County for 125 years, and from its current location near downtown Adrian since 1966.

Since that time, the needs of the community have changed and the current facility is not sustainable without major, costly improvements.

The good news is that an independent market study conducted in 2017 confirmed that a centrally located Y with new facilities has the potential to attract and serve more people. A new Y facility will be more accessible to those living in surrounding communities and will provide state-of-the-art resources and an invigorating environment to encourage regular participation.

“Our entire board believed that relocating to a new location and building a new facility would not only appeal to our current members, but also allow potential members from surrounding communities to join as well.”

—Chuck Chase, President, YMCA Board of Directors

THE INTENT OF RELOCATING THE Y IS TO GET MORE PEOPLE MOVING – AND IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF OUR COMMUNITY.

The current facility will remain operational until the new facility is completed. Details and updates will be provided as the new building is near completion. The Y will explore potential uses and community partners for the current building in order to best serve the Adrian community.

• Build a new, comprehensive, state-of-the-art wellness center on the ProMedica Hickman Hospital campus to meet the needs of everyone in Lenawee County.

• Seamless integration of services, from medical and rehab to wellness and recreation, for people of all ages.

• Access to more services including chronic disease prevention through increased collaboration between the YMCA and ProMedica. While these organizations already partner to address diabetes and high blood pressure, this project is expected to add youth weight loss, LIVESTRONG and other programs.

• More outdoor space to strengthen youth programming through summer camps, outdoor wellness and learning opportunities on the farm.

With roots that reach deep into Lenawee County, Herrick Hospital in Tecumseh and Bixby Hospital in Adrian recognize the growing demand for the delivery of patient-centered care and convenient access to community-based diagnostic and therapeutic services. Offering these services close to home where patients can enjoy the support of family and friends is a commitment we are very passionate about.

Today, residents are served by two aging hospitals located 12 miles apart. These dated and inefficient facilities require significant capital to maintain and upgrade.

As a result, both hospitals have space and facility challenges, and have difficulty recruiting new physicians and maintaining specialists. For residents of Lenawee County, however, these challenges provide a great new opportunity.

Please Join Us in Investing in a Healthy Lenawee County This project will improve the health and wellness of our community. It will bring new hope and renewed pride to a recovering region, anchored by an outstanding hospital and wellness center that is right around the corner.

Your Support is Critical Our resources alone are not enough to advance our vision for health in the community. The healthcare landscape continues to shift: margins are shrinking and cutbacks in Medicaid reimbursements – affecting 40% of our patient population – are deepening. Many hospitals are deferring renovations, scuttling expansions and scaling back services.

We’ve chosen to move forward with this project because now is not the time to put the health and well-being of our community on hold. Now is the time to complete this project at the scale envisioned.

And we must look to you, our donors, as never before to help bring this blueprint to life.
