Getting kids to school happy, healthy, and ready to learn since 1988.

    See page 6 for details.

  • INVESTING IN VANCOUVER YOUTH

    The students we serve:

50% of VPS students are from families with incomes below federal poverty guidelines (i.e., qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch), with some VPS schools as high as 88%.

800+ students experienced homelessness during the past school year.

Approximately 1 out of 5 VPS students are chronically absent.

Our students are from diverse backgrounds, with 66 languages spoken and 19% with a home language other than English.

The Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) serves over 23,000 youth in 37 schools and programs. Support for the Foundation for VPS helps students in need overcome barriers to learning and enriches the school experience to promote achievement for all students.

In 2019-20, funding to the Foundation for VPS addressed barriers to learning associated with poverty, supporting students through:

Housing stability support Health, dental & vision care, mental health

    Family & community engagement

School engagement grants, student enrichment, mentoring programs

Food, clothing, school supplies, personal hygiene

    Early learning programs

    By leveraging funds

    along with community

“When the community comes together to support students, they can succeed

and thrive. Students don’t have to worry about whether they can eat, or if they will be safe

and warm. Your support really does change lives.”

    -Jennifer Blechschmidt, VPS Principal

    Early Learning

  • Benefits of Giving to Foundation for VPS

Social Impact: Students are better prepared to enter the workforce and contribute to the well-being of our community.

Business values: Many community members choose to patronize businesses supporting students. Fostering a culture of giving back in your business can aid employee recruitment and retention.

Recognition of your positive community investment is an important part of the Foundation for VPS partnership program.

    PARTNERSHIPS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Partnerships strengthen our schools and communities!

It starts with a simple premise. In order to address the biggest challenges facing Vancouver children,

and to achieve systemic and lasting improvements, the path

for change leads through local schools and community support.

Vancouver Public School’s Community Schools model unites

schools, families, and communities to address opportunity

and achievement gaps and improve student learning.

The district’s Family-Community Resource Centers (FCRCs)

serve all VPS schools through a network of 18 on-site centers

and two mobile units, providing families with access to

academic and early learning programs, health and social

services, youth and community activities, and other services

    and resources.

“There were times that if I didn’t go to school, I probably wouldn’t have eaten that day. I don’t think I would have graduated high school without the support of the Foundation and school staff.”

    -Caiti, 2019 VPS graduate

“Without assistance from the Foundation’s Housing Stability Fund, I would have been homeless and my daughter would have been placed in foster care.”

    -Leigh, VPS parent

“Covid has created a greater stress for families who were already struggling with lack of resources. Grocery gift cards from the Foundation provide food for families in highest need.”

    -Hilda, VPS Family-CommunityResource Coordinator

Foundation for VPS Annual LuncheonMay 12, 2021(See next page for benefits)

Our largest community fundraising event, held virtually this spring, raises money to help remove barriers to learning for students living in poverty and to enrich the lives of all students across 37 VPS schools and programs.

As a sponsor, you will receive event access, company name on relevant marketing and event materials, and recognition during the event. Additional benefits are available based on sponsorship level.

Event sponsorship underwrites production costs, so that all funds raised during the luncheon go directly to help our students.

of $10,000 or more over three years.)
