The Island of Lombok Lombok is the westernmost island Lesser Sunda island chain of Indonesia. Lying directly east of Bali across the Lombok Strait, the island is roughly circular with a diameter of around 70 kilometers. With less than three million inhabitants spread across 4725 square kilometers of land Lombok is relatively uncrowded. Much of the population is centered around Mataram, the capital of West Nusa Tenggara province, which also includes the island of Sumbawa to the east.

Marine Paradise The white triangular sails of Bugis fishing craft gliding gracefully offshore attest to the maritime bounty of the seas around Lombok. The fertile waters at the junction of several ocean currents, and the abundance corals reefs lying off the rugged coastlines, offer endless opportunities for diving, snorkeling, and fishing. Numerous experienced operators and a well-developed infrastructure serves divers of all experience levels.

Gentle currents and crystal waters in numerous inlets and coves are ideal for novice divers and snorkelers. Further offshore, experienced divers will encounter giant groupers, graceful manta and other one-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Big-game fishers will relish the challenge of reeling in one of the scores of pelagic species migrating

through the 1500 meter Lombok Strait. The sheltered bays along the southern coast and the Sekotong Inlet are ideal venues for marine sports such as jet skiing and paragliding.

Surfer's Paradise The south coast of Lombok boasts some of the best surfing spots in the world. Surfing is possible for most of the year, with May to September offering the best and most consistent waves. Warm water and air temperatures make surfing, and waiting for the right wave, a joy even for novices, while experienced wave riders will relish the challenge of the Indian Ocean's massive breakers. Whether rank beginner or seasoned expert, all will find Lombok a surfer's paradise.

Gerupuk Bay to the east of Kuta, has four breaks offering a wide variety of waves all year round: something for everyone. Reef breaks, such as Kuta, require some experience to surf safely. To the west of Kuta, as the big swells roll in Mawi offers the bravest

surfers pulse-pounding thrills heaving barrels and elevator drops. Further afield, the world-famed Desert Point of the far western tip of the Sekotong Peninsula challenges the best surfers with giant waves driven by the full power of the Indian Ocean.

BAU NYALE FESTIVAL The Mandalika Resort takes its name from a legendary princess of the Kuripan kingdom of South Lombok who, in despair over the fighting among her many suitors to win her hand, threw herself into the waves, promising to return in a form that all could share equally.

True to her word, each February, near the end of the wet season, the beach at Kuta swarms with nyale, a type of sea worm that is delicious when properly prepared and cooked. The appearance of the nyale is marked by colorful celebrations and rituals.

INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTBandara International Lombok (BIL), Lombok's international airport that was constructed to serve the Mandalika project, is expected to start operations in June 2010. ELECTRICITYLombok currently has adequate supplies of electricity, and capacity will be expanded to meet demand. Indonesia's national electrical utility (PLN) is also building a dedicated power facility for the Mandalika Resort. TELECOMMUNICATION Indonesia's excellent telecommunications network is well represented in Mandalika. Voice and high-speed Internet connections are available through both public land lines and private mobile providers. Visitors may purchase local mobile telephone numbers at nominal cost.

ACCESS ROAD A fully paved, well-maintained sixteen-kilometer road connects the airport with the Mandalika Resort.

An Integrated Resort The Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) pioneered the concept of an integrated resort in Indonesia. The state-owned company, established in 1973, transformed the remote and barren Nusa Dua area in South Bali into one of the best tourist resorts in the world.

The Indonesian government has now granted BTDC management rights (HPL) over 1175 hectares of land in Lombok to create the Mandalika Resort Area. BTDC and partners will establish joint venture companies to assume responsiblity for infrastructure, security, management of common facilities, and liaison with local and national authorities. Individual investors are given broad guidelines for architectural design and land use, but otherwise are free to develop their properties to suit their own requirements. This “best of both worlds” approach allows investors to offer a comprehensive range of major amenities: a world-class golf course, marina, convention and sports venues, with minimal capital and operational outlay.

Sustainable

BTDC will draw on decades of experience in environmental protection to ensure that the resort and all component properties comply with global environmental protection standards. Innovative techniques for water treatment and recycling, energy efficiency, and waste disposal will ensure that the Mandalika Resort will share the green certification of the sister resort in Bali.

Natural

The rolling hills that provide a verdant backdrop to the Mandalika Resort have been set aside as a conservation area. The 3000 hectares are home to many of the endemic species of Nusa Tenggara. A system of trails and guideposts will open the area for hiking, bicycling, and other low-impact activities.

Mandalika Resort guarantees safety and security for guest and investor alike. For the guest, controlled access and stringent security offer peace of mind, especially important for young families. Desired Investor/Partner ProfileWe invite selected companies with the required financial resources and with prior experience in tourism-resort or other property development to participate in creating the Mandalika Resort.
