Presenter
Presentation Notes
Business as usual cannot go on as it is leading the planet towards irreversible climate change, it is accelerating the ongoing biodiversity crisis and is pushing the global society towards unheard inequality levels affecting more than two-thirds of the globe. At same time poverty alongside social conflicts over access to resources (food, water, land, energy, minerals) and expanded commoditisation of resources.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Commodization is the process by which goods that have economic value and are distinguishable in terms of attributes (uniqueness or brand) end up becoming simple commodities in the eyes of the market or consumers. Metal deposits are different, and so are ores. Not to mention by-products… Stock market metals prices. Consequence: miners revenue is not sufficient for top environmental and social performances

‘comprehensive extraction’

also called ‘comprehensive and integrated resource recovery’. In a nutshell, this new approach argues that any operation should disturb a mine site only once and extract all useful materials using an optimised integrated flowsheet.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
R&D, new business models and enhanced skills are boosting invisible mines, having the potential to reduce the environmental impacts of mines and their footprint, and to increase the social acceptance of mining, all challenges that currently undermine the activity in Europe (an in many other places).

Presentation Notes
Comprehensive extraction will create a fundamental shift in traditional business models since the extraction and maximisation of the value of all extracted materials increases the number of interactions in downstream industries. The key word is new business models

Invisible MiningUnfolding

11

Presenter
Presentation Notes
unfold of invisible mines and intelligent business models will shift skills and competencies of the mining workforce towards more complex cognitive categories with increased requirements in digital literacy, alongside a holistic understanding of the value chains that are using mining outputs and enhanced expertise on communication and stakeholder engagement. This entails the urgent alignment of education and training contents

Given that advances in technology, knowledge and the interdependencies of several resource types are diversified and complex, the CP TF acknowledges that there are no universal competency requirements for people using the UNFC and the UNRMS.

Given that advances in technology, knowledge and the interdependencies of several resource types are diversified and complex, the CP TF acknowledges that there are no universal competency requirements for people using the UNFC and the UNRMS.

However, since transparency and accountability are crucial to maintaining public trust in the UNFC and the UNRMS, the CP TF is preparing sector-neutral recommendations regarding competency requirements of individuals who prepare estimates pertaining to the quantities and value of resources
