BUDAPEST INTERNATIONAL MODEL UNITED NATIONS

5th

Anniversary Session - 2015

Letter of invitation

On behalf of the Secretariat, the Organisers‟ Team and Eötvös József Secondary School it is a great

pleasure to invite you to the fifth anniversary session of Budapest International Model United Nations held

in Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, April 10-14.

Nowadays several conferences are organised in almost every country of the world and it is a great

honour for us to welcome our participants year by year. At these meetings we offer high school students a

special chance to act as real diplomats and to familiarize with international topics ranging from local

conflicts to worldwide issues.

Since 2011 our conference has welcomed more than 1200 delegates from 25 countries of 4 continents.

In 2013 and 2014 we also hosted a „university level‟ conference which – we must proudly announce – has

stepped on a whole new level and path of independence under the auspices of the International Diplomatic

Student Association. Although targeting a different group informal relations will always be maintained

between the two conferences. Hereby, we would like to wish the best of luck and successful organisation to

them!

This year, instead of only pursuing numbers a goal of world-class quality and greater professionalism

has been set. All of our participants may experience new or developed features, for example renowned

guest speakers in all committees, highly-trained chairs and presidents, a smarter committee-environment

and of course even more guest-friendly and punctual organisation.

Since the very early times we always emphasized semi-formal and spare-time activities Budapest has to

offer our participants – this has not changed! It is still one of our main aims to make sure that all

delegations take the opportunity to get to know to this exceptionally vibrant and unique city. Also, relaxing

after tough sessions and having fun building relations is something we find important. For the sake of this,

such social events as an Official Closing Party and a Closing Ceremony will take place.

The conference is hosted by Eötvös József Secondary School for the fifth time now, one of the most

prestigious high schools of Hungary. More than 400 students work on this project every year in order to

ensure the smoothness of organisation and the memorable stay of participating delegations.

During the whole time of the conference, from arrival to departure, a Hungarian supervisor will be at

your delegation‟s disposal in order to help you in avoiding inconveniences. They will be there to be asked,

to accompany you in the city and to take you to the official events of the conference. You will be able to

contact them at any time during your stay.

country preferences more accurately.

12 delegates – ex.: P5s, other economic or military world powers

8 delegates – mid-size countries or countries of limited importance – ex.: Iran, Ukraine, Pakistan

4 delegates – small-size countries, agencies, organisations, observers – ex.: NATO, Palestine, Estonia

12-bigs can also consist of one 8-big and one 4-big delegation or three 4-big delegations; 8-bigs can also

consist of two 4-big delegations.

Note: requested numbers are not guaranteed. Furthermore, all those schools willing to bring more

delegates should apply for an additional 4-big delegation extension by filling a form at the first step of

registration. There will be separate ‘best delegation’ awards for the three different categories.

Anniversary Session - 2015

The ‘Day 0 Program’

Since we would like to provide our guests with the best opportunities to get a deeper insight into Model UN

practices, UN-issues and several other topics, we decided to continue a revised ‟Day 0 Program‟ which will

take place on April 9. Delegates will be able to take part in workshops and attend the lectures of

professionals, diplomats and our most experienced MUNers. This day is optional and available for an

additional fee of 10 EUR – please indicate your participation in the first step of registration.

Accommodation

We are offering a wide selection of hotels, hostels and youth hostels of different price ranges, where

delegations can get reduced prices. Please visit our website for further information where you will be able

to directly make your reservation. If experiencing any problems please contact us!

In case of financial hardship we will happily offer our participants a limited number of home-stays. For

application please find the form at registration. Delegates of a delegation cannot choose both hotel-stay and

home-stay.

Committee and delegation difficulty levels

Continuing last year‟s practice we will be ranking delegations and committees to help you in assigning your

delegates and to make sure that every committee can maintain productive and successful work.

Delegation information and application for countries have to be submitted on a form at the first step of

registration. Committee information will be available at the second step Phase II of registration.

We would like to remind all participating schools that being professional is not only our but our

participants’ responsibility as well, thus we would like to kindly ask you to give a proper training to your

delegates and provide them with extensive knowledge of their issues. We welcome, if you are wishing to

send your most experienced ones but please also dedicate great importance to their activeness and

communicational skills!

Executive board application (Chairs and Presidents)

Committee sessions are controlled by two or three chairs or presidents whose role is to maintain the perfect

flow of debate in accordance with the official guide of the conference, called “Rules of Procedure”.

We are looking for candidates who have already taken part in MUNs several times as a delegate (and

preferably in a committee-leading position as well) and would like to subject themselves to a training to

finally take up the prestigious role of a BIMUN executive board member.

Applications due: 15th

November to [email protected]

BUDAPEST INTERNATIONAL MODEL UNITED NATIONS

5th

Anniversary Session - 2015

Note of the Secretary-General

Dear future Participants of Budapest International Model United Nations 2015,

As the Secretary-General of the fifth Anniversary Session of this renowned conference I feel the urge to

welcome You and – at the same time – to introduce You briefly to the story of a wonderful idea that had

taken shape in 2011 for the first time.

A teacher and a handful of MUN-enthusiasts – that is how the organisation of BIMUN started in 2009.

After 2 years of hard work and challenging preparations BIMUN had been declared open for the first time

on April 15 – it was historical, however, that time it was still unsure whether it will happen the next year.

Fortunately, more and more people stepped in – and we could make our way to the next level: MUN-Club

in 2012. Today no one doubts that it was the best that could happen to our community: almost 50 „best

delegate‟ titles and great numbers of great MUNers year by year who continuously fuelled our development

with their commitments. The conference was revised and gained an enormous boost.

A year later we were working on our own without the supervision of any teachers – we are still proud of

being completely student organised. 16 leaders and hundreds of helpers created something notable. In 2013

we held a university level and launched BIMUN TV – the conference was a resounding success.

2014 was a year of experiments, many changes were introduced and the conference was actually two

different meetings: one for high school delegates and one for university students. Our dream was to make

them equal – now that we are formally split this dream can come true.

After all, there is only one thought left to be written: we will be true to the legacy of BIMUN!

Dear future participants, we are preparing, and preparing a lot to make this conference come up to the

previous ones and to make it exemplary for the future ones to be held!

Secretary-General
