Dear Friends,Let the Alleluias ring out! The fifty days of Easter, the great season of joy in the Christian Church that takes us to Pentecost and its celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit, is marked by the ancient Hebrew shout of “Praise God!” Whether transliterated as “hallelujah” or “alleluia,” we offer this praise continually during these days to celebrate the gift of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the promise of eternal life and love given by God in that great event, and the hope of our faith that the kingdom of God has thereby come near to us and has enfolded us already.

What better way to celebrate, then, than by lifting up new commitments to that kingdom? The death of the self-centered self and the rebirth of a Christ-centered self that will be enacted in baptism at the 9:10 a.m. service, in the splash of holy water and the sealing with holy oil, recognizes the fundamental truth that we are all beloved children of God called to new life in Jesus. But today we amplify that celebration by welcoming into our little piece of God’s kingdom, the parish of St. James’ Church, new members who are committed to praying, working, and giving for the building of the body of the faithful in this particular place. This welcome will be celebrated at the 9:10 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 6:00 p.m. services — so raise a loud “Alleluia!” to God’s gifts of faith, and hope, and love.

Immediately following the 9:10 and 11:15 a.m. services every Sunday, visitors and newcomers are invited for an informal conversation with the Rector about what led you to St. James’ and where you might like to go in your spiritual life. PRAY»WORK»GIVE STEWARDSHIP2013

Your church is the community where you seek and serve God

in Christ, and where you allow yourself to be served in Christ’s

name. It is the center of your praying, working, and giving for the

spread of the Kingdom of God. When you commit a portion of your

annual budget to the ministries of St. James’, we know — and you

know — that this is your church. Your commitment won’t simply

represent your share of St. James’ budget; with God’s help, it will

increasingly represent the Kingdom’s share of your budget. If you

have yet to make a commitment for 2013, please do so by filling

out a pledge card or visiting stjames.org/commitment.

MANYTHANKS!Many thanks to all who contributed to our Easter project to send bibles to our partner village of Chiradzulu in Malawi. We

were able to send enough to purchase 90 bibles in time for Easter! They will be distributed to the nine outstations in the district. Your generosity

has made it possible for hundreds of people to have access to God’s word. Zikomo kwamberi.
