Invitation  to  a  Press  Conference  with  Dr.  Vandana  Shiva  on  the  UN  Year  of  Pulses

Launch  of  the  book:    Pulse  of  Life:  The  Rich  Biodiversity  of  Edible  Legumes    by  Vandana  Shiva,  Maya  Godurdhun,  Reetha  Balsavar  The  book  is  launched  at  BIOFACH  2016  and  it  is  issued  at  the  occasion  of  the  International  Year  of  Pulses.  It  looks  at  the  rich  bio-­‐cultural  diversity  of  pulses  and  legumes  and  analyses  the  threats  to  diversity  and  sovereignty  on  the  background  of  the  century  old  traditions  of  pulses  in  India  and  around  the  world.    

The  UN  General  Assembly  declared  2016  the  International  Year  of  Pulses  (IYP).  The  IYP  2016  aims  to  heighten  public  awareness  of  the  nutritional  benefits  of  pulses  as  part  of  sustainable  food  production  aimed  towards  food  security  and  nutrition.    

The  press  conference  is  moderated  by  Bernward  Geier,  Colabora  and  you  can  speak  to:    

• Dr.  Vandana  Shiva,  Navdanya  India,  Laureate  of  the  Alternative  Nobel  Prize  

• Andre  Leu,  President  of  IFOAM  –  Organics  International  and  author  of  the  book:  “the  myths  of  safe  pesticides”.
