Inviting Specialists
Background of the Strategy
This method enables the students to meet, listen or interview a specialist on a particular topic.
The person to be invited is an expert and a known authority on the subject matter being studied.
In a classroom setting, it is simply a straight talk on an area that needs an in-depth explanation.

It may take the form of:1. Lecture2. Speech3. Essay4. OrationWith high expectation, the speaker who is a
new knowledge provider is easily a welcomed personality.
Background of the Strategy
Unlike a field trip, resource person is brought to the classroom rather than the students visiting him.
Interest in the topic is assured by this innovative technique since the information to be delivered is very special from an influential and convincing speaker.
Instructional Characteristics
1. Since the lecturer is a recognized authority in his area, the students will look up to him a source of accurate, reliable and scholarly address
2. Listeners are assured of a fresh and updated information from a known practitioner.
3. Lecture can serve as a document on the subject and can be filed in the school library.
4. Attention is easily captured by new authority on a very special topic.
Suggestions/Recommendations
1. Prepare for the coming of a visitor. Assign a committee to take care of the invitation, reception and refreshment for him/her.
2. Inform the speaker ahead of time about the age level and maturity of the students so he/she can adjust the vocabulary and manner of presenting the topic, the time allotted and if an open forum will follow. This is in addition to the special topic he is to lecture on.
Suggestions/Recommendations
3. Give a background information on previous lessons to which the new topic could be connected.
4. Students may be asked to be prepared with their questions so that the resource speaker will be guided accordingly. This will lead to a lively, comprehensive and fruitful exchange of ideas.
5. Remind the students about proper decorum and respect for an authority.
