Natural Disasters Update:

Drought IDP Overview in Herat:

During the month of May, as per the initial reports obtained from ANDMA and DoRR, over 3,000 families were reportedly displaced from Ghor and Badghis provinces to Herat

province. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, WFP, IRC, ANDMA and DRC initiated assessment on 30 April that concluded on 08 May. 2,600 families were verified in

need of humanitarian assistance that were assisted by IOM, WFP and UNICEF with provision of NFIs, tents and hygiene kits. Following the distribution, additional families

started arriving to the IDP location. As per the decision of the PDMC and request from Badghis DoRR, the assessment was paused due influx of IDPs who were coming from the

provinces after they got aware of the assistance in Herat.

Following a joint inter-cluster mission visit to the IDP location and coordination at provincial level with government and humanitarian partners, it was agreed to resume the

assessment. As per the initial reports from ANDMA, approx. 11,000 families have newly arrived that have settled in various locations in Herat. hhese families have reportedly

assessment teams consisting of IOM, DoRR, ANDMA, UNICEF, DRC, IRC, NRC, UNV, RRD, DACAR, WFP, OCHA, WV, Shelter NAW and UNHCR with 80 teams initiated assessment

assisted however the team was not able to complete all the assessment.

A coordination meeting was held on 18 July to assess the preliminary findings of the assessment. As per the initial reports from the teams, around 10,000 families have been

assessed that includes 2,600 families assisted in May 2018. hhe assessment is concluded while and ERM partners have initiated distribution of cash assistance (AFN6,000)

which is meant to cover the most immediate needs. hhe assessment conducted was specific to cash assistance while multi-cluster needs have not been identified in the assess-

ment. ho assess ES/NFI cluster specific and multi-cluster needs, following coordination, an assessment led by IOM was initiated on 01 August.

16 IOM staff from other regions were redeployed to Herat and 1,000 packages of NFIs were mobilized to Herat. 10 teams were formed to assess all the settlements which in-

cluded 1). 10 focus group discussion through RAF 2) 6 focus group discussions focused on multi-cluster needs, (3 males 3 females) 3). 300 + sample HH interview.

hhe assessment concluded on 02 August and identified 9,202 families in need of NFIs, emergency shelter, food, WASH, sanitation, and health. A response coordination meeting

was held on 07 August, the distribution of NFIs and ES will be initiated on Sunday, 12 August. IOM will cover NFI needs of 3,200 families, IRC and DRC committed cover the
