Introduction:Rumors on the presence of gold at floor level in the Tibesti Mountains in Chad led to a rush of thousands of people to the area in order to mine it. This caused insecurity, leading the government to forcibly enforce prohibition of this activity.

Following clashes and deadly attacks betweenChadian miners and miners returning from Niger on August 11, the government of Chad enacted an evacuation from the Tibesti Mountains area. Over 6,500 Sudanese migrants working in the gold minesin the Tibesti region of Chad were expelled.Theseexpelled migrants, who lack documentation and resources, began arriving in North Darfur (2,500 in Tina Locality) and West Darfur (4,000 in El Geneina)on August 31.On September 7, 125 migrants also arrived in Nyala, South Darfur, after being expelled from Niger. The clashes in Chad are ongoing,and movements are expected to continue for the next months; more arrivals are expected in the coming days.

Many of the migrants have reportedly lost most of their belongings during the journey an complained of looting. They now find themselves without any financial support and are unable to return to their points of origin in Sudan.The stranded migrants,all men ,are putting significant pressureon areas with an on-going humanitariancrisis and limited basic services torespond to such needs.
