    REASONS:-

The colonial era started in 17th century British stepped into Indiain 18th century as traders and ruled India almost between 1858and 1947. Muslims had been ruling India for almost thousandyears but Britain had been able to gain control over them. After

Britain took control of India they made it British colony.

The subcontinent was initially controlled by East India Company, which set up number of factories and made India a traders postand proved the most powerful company that controlled India withits direct rule as the support of some Indian princes. India becamea British colony in 1857 even as the power was transferred fromEast India Company to British crown. British not only spread out their rule in India but also in severalcountries in the world

vIMPACTIMPACT the biggest benefit that British

colonization had for India was to bringit together. Rest of the changes wouldhave come sooner or later in any case

. India does not have the potential of

becoming a superpower in the short aswell as long term. Its demographic, social and psychic structure isinherently fragmentative.

there is nothing absolute good or bad.To that extent I agree that Britishcoloniesm did some good things forIndia. However I would want to debate

the notion that had British not beenthere India would not have seen a of

the best thing that could have happened toIndia was to be colonized by the British. As an Indian living abroad, I was livid to

hear this and extremely offended by thecomment.

, Indians speak English, which is why we areadvancing so rapidly today. To me, this

shows pure ignorance. Just because wespeak English, does this make us anysmarter

Therefore if India was not colonized would

have been Bharat or Hindustan or evenUnited states of Hindustan and woulddefinately have been better placedeconomically

While few educated South Asians woulddeny that British Colonial rule wasdetrimental to the interests of thecommon people of the sub-continent -

several harbor an illusion that the Britishweren't all bad.
