IOSH Event Feedback & Analysis
• Total 26 professionals ( 16 Members and 10 Non Members
• attended) representing various companies attended the event.
• Branch Introduction, achievements and forecast plan presented by
Chair.
• Peter Mc Nair, CFIOSH, New Image LLC Spoke on IPD/ CPD for
Successful achievement of CMIOSH from 7pm to 8pm.
• It was an excellent session and good feedback received from the
attendees, it was seen all were keen on the subject.

• Many non Members shown keen interest to join IOSH.
• Good Networking among the groups were seen during the Meeting.
• Motivation level of professionals are seen during the meeting and

What is CPD?• Continuing Professional Development (CPD) helps you create a
structured career path, as well as safeguarding your professional status
• It’s about improving your skills, knowledge and expertise by carrying out development activities
• After carrying out these activities, you reflect on what you’ve gained or achieved
• While CPD is open to all categories of IOSH membership, Technical Members, Graduate Members, Chartered Members and Chartered Fellows are bound by the IOSH Code of Conduct to carry out CPD
Value of CPD to members
• Helps to highlight gaps in your knowledge, skills and experience
• Builds confidence and credibility – you can track your learning and progress
• Creates a professional impression at appraisals and job interviews
• Helps you maximise your earning potential
• Shows your employer that you’re maintaining your skills
Membership categories• Affiliate Member
– Entry level
– CPD is Recommended
• Associate Member– Transitional category
– CPD is Recommended
• Technical Member– Level 3 qualification in safety and health
– Two years’ full-time experience
– Three to five years’ part-time experience in safety and health
– CPD is obligatory
• Graduate Member– Degree-level qualification in safety and health or equivalent
– CPD is obligatory

• Should be reviewed and updated on a regular basis
• It should include an overview of the following
1 Duties and responsibilities ( Job description)
2 Objectives ( for the next 6 – 12 months)
3 Personal development ( strengths, weaknesses, areas for improvement )

1 What – what the activity was
2 Why – you decided to carry it out
3 What – you gained from the activity
4 How – you will use or apply the knowledge you gained in the future
CPD – Recent changes
• No longer operates in three-year cycles
• Points/credits are no longer part of the CPD assessment criteria
• Points / credits have been removed

• CPD assessment criteria focuses on the strength and content of your reflective statements
Initial Professional Development (IPD)
• IPD is the assessment process that every member goes through before they become a Chartered Member
• The process ensures that all members are assessed for their knowledge, skills and experience
• Only our Graduate members are eligible to register for IPD
• IPD enrolment is for a maximum of two years and the current fee is £160.00
• Members who do not complete within two years will be asked to re-register

• You may be asked to complete both the SDPand the OA – it will depend on the qualificationthat gave you Graduate status
• You will always be asked to a PRI
• Choose seven criteria from five elements
• One criterion each from elements 1, 2 and 3
• Two criteria each from elements 4 and 5

Skills Development Portfolio (SDP)
• Each criterion consists of:
1 Outlined evidence background and intended outcomes
2 Indexed evidence
3 Activity and evidence log – what you have done
4 Reflective account
5 Evidence can be up to two years old at point of submission
6 Guidance gives minimum requirements for activities and evidence for each criterion
Skills Development Portfolio (SDP)
• Portfolios are assessed by qualified assessors
• If further evidence is required, the Assessor will let you know
• Criteria are assessed within two to three weeks of submission
Open Assessment (OA)
• Now online and takes place on the third Wednesday of every month
• Exam period is two weeks, but you have seven days in which to complete it once started
• New format includes degree-level questions
• Two-part assessment:
– 48 multiple choice questions marked online
– two scenario-based questions marked by an examiner
IPD: Electronic Open Assessment (EOA)
• Open Book
• Assessment paper online
• Two-part assessment
1 Part A – 48 Multi-choice, timed 3 hours to complete in one sitting
2 Part B – Two Scenario-based questions,700 word count on each question, seven days to complete
• Result in four weeks
• Part A questions are marked by computer and you will get your results immediately
• Part B questions are marked by examiners and you will get your results by email three weeks after the close of the assessment period
• If you pass Part A, you can attempt Part B
• If you fail Part A, you must re-register and try Part A again
• If you fail Part B, you must re-register but you do not have to take Part A again
• Maximum of four attempts allowed
Open Assessment (OA)

• 10 minutes maximum
• Typically five to seven slides
• General content:

– Key achievements
– Biggest challenges
– Future career and/or development objectives
