What is CPD

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) helps you create a structured career path,

as well as safeguarding your professional status.

- It’s about improving your skills, knowledge and expertise by carrying out

development activities.

- After carrying out these activities, you reflect on what you’ve gained or achieved.

- While CPD is open to all categories of IOSH Membership, Technical Members,

Graduate Members, Chartered Members and Chartered Fellows are bound by the

IOSH Code of Conduct to carry out CPD.

- A Development Plan will be requested by the Membership team when upgrading

from an Affiliate membership.

How to maintain a successful CPD record

Page 8: IOSH PowerPoint Presentation widescreen

Recording your CPD

To help you write your reflection statement you

simply answer the following questions:

- What was the activity you completed?

- Why did you decide to carry out this

activity?

- What did you gain from completing the

activity?

- How will you use or apply the knowledge

you gain?

CPD

- No longer operates in a three year cycle.

- Points/credits are no longer a part of the CPD assessment process criteria.

- CPD activities are not counted in hours.

- CPD does not have to be all health and safety related.

- You do not need to spend money on completing qualifications or courses to

complete your CPD.

• Managing budgets

• Designing training or learning programmes

• Voluntary work in the local community using your

professional skills.

• Chairing or attending a meeting

• Reading professional journals – monthly IOSH

magazines
