Crown bearer at Gehlen Catholic Homecoming was Riley Kroll, son of Theresa Kroll, & grandson of Jerry & Nancy Schlichte.

Gehlen Catholic Homecoming was held Sept. 24-28. Included on the court was Brittany Krienert, daughter of Lyle & Alice Krienert.

Travels

Don & Betty Beitelspacher & Don’s sister, Delores Buryanek,

traveled to the East Coast for the Fall Foliage bus trip. They flew to Philadelphia & took a bus from there. Some of the many places they visited were Martha’s Vineyard, Ground Zero, Canada, Niagara Falls, Cape Cod, Lake Placid, & Gettysburg. They left Sept. 20 and returned Oct. 4. Don says, “We had a great time and would recommend it to anybody.”

Ed & Gerry Sue Krienert, her sister, Jan, & her brother, Greg

Schmidt, drove to the Upper Peninsula, MI. They stayed 2 nights at the Dapple Gray B&B. The colors were beautiful!

Recipe of the Month:

Buttermilk Chocolate Cake 2 1/2 C. flour 2 C. sugar

5 T. cocoa 1 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla 2 eggs

1 C. vegetable oil 1 C. buttermilk

1 C. hot water 2 tsp. baking soda

Mix dry ingredients until well blended. Add baking soda to water. Add vanilla, eggs, vegetable oil, buttermilk & water-baking soda mixture to dry ingredients. Stir well. Batter will be quite thin. Pour into greased & floured pan (9x13”, jelly roll or two 9” pans). Bake at 350 degrees until tests done.

Fudge frosting:

Combine 1 C. sugar, 1/3 C. milk & 6 T. butter. Bring to a boil & boil for 75 seconds. Remove from heat & stir in 6 large cut-up marshmallows, 1 C. chocolate chips & 1 tsp. vanilla. Stir until well blended. Pour over cake. Work fast as it sets up quickly. -submitted by Donna Taylor
