PART ONE:

The Worlds Favourite Cities

Methodology

The questions were placed on Global @dvisor Wave 42 (G@42), an Ipsos survey conducted between 5-19 February 2013

The survey is conducted monthly in 24 countries around the world via the Ipsos Online Panel system. The countries covered are: Argentina, Australia, Belgium,

Brazil, Canada, China, France, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia,

Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea,

Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United States of America

The research is based on an international sample of 18,147 adults aged 18-64 in the US and Canada, and age 16-64 in all other countries. Sample size is approximately

1,000 per country, with the exception of Argentina, Belgium, Hungary, Indonesia,

Mexico, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden and

Turkey, where each have a sample of approximately 500

Weighting was then employed to balance demographics and ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to the most

recent country Census data

The Questions

Respondents were presented with a list of 48 world cities, and asked three questions:

Based on what you have seen yourself, or heard from others, which three cities in the world do you think are best.

(a) to do business in

(b) to live in

(c) to visit

From these three questions, we have calculated an overall score: The Ipsos Cities

Index. This simple measure is produced by adding up the percentages choosing the city at each question

For example, 12% of the global sample say Zurich is one of the best places to do business in. Some 21% single it out as one of the best places to live, with 8% putting it

on their best place to visit list. This gives it an Ipsos Cities Index score of 41 points

The Europes top city findings are based on the ratings given by respondents in the 11 European countries covered in the survey

In this final part of our report, we have focused on Europe.

We took the 18 European cities covered in our research:

Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Istanbul, London, Madrid,

Moscow, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Warsaw, Zurich

and we looked at the views of people in the 11 European countries included in the survey:

Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey
