Michael Daniel Higgins

The president of Ireland is Michael D. Higgins. He is the current president of Ireland, president of Labor, exparlamentary and exminister of Culture. He was named a candidate for his political party´s 2011 presidential election on 19 June 2011 at a meeting of the National Executive Committe and the Parliamentary Labour Party. He had expressed his intention in September 2010 and defeated two other candidates, Fergus Finlay and former senator Kathleen O'Meara. The October 29 2011, two days after the presidential election, Higgins was declared the winner with a total of 1,007,104 votes. His term is seven years in length, and maybe reappointed once.

Enda KennyThere isn´t a king, but there is a head of government called Enda Kenny. Is an Irish politician, current Taoiseach (First Minister) of the Government of Ireland and leader of the Conservative Christian Democratic Party and Fine Gael (Family of the Irish), and was leader of the Opposition in Dáil Éireann until March 2011, a month after her party won the general election. Enda Kenny agreed to the direction of Fine Gael in 2002, after a disastrous general election which led to the resignation of then-leader Michael Noonan. He earned his seat in Dáil Éireann in 1975, with only 24 years, and directed the Ministry of Tourism and Trade from 1994 to 1997.

Celts arrived in Ireland in 300 BC and ruled the country for the next 1000 years, leaving footprints in the art and culture that can still be found today. Christianity came to Ireland from the third century and V. The Vikings ruled from the eighteenth century onwards until the country became part of the British kingdom in 1169 . A long struggle for independence took place until 1922 , after the War independence of Ireland, when the 26 southern counties of Ireland gained independence from the United Kingdom and became the Irish Free State , and after 1948 , in the Republic of Ireland.

The six counties in the northeast known as Northern Ireland remained part of the United Kingdom but instability in the north began to show in the sixties. For many years there were violent clashes between proclaiming a united Ireland and those who wished to remain part of the United States and who were known as " The Troubles " . Irish governments sought a peaceful reunification of Ireland and generally showed a cooperative attitude with the British government .

The July 28, 2005 , the Provisional Irish Republican Army ( IRA ) announced the end of its armed campaign and 25 September 2005 international weapons inspectors supervised the full disarmament of the IRA.
