About IrDEA District energy systems are utilised widely across European cities and towns to deliver low-carbon, low-cost heating and cooling to homes and businesses. District energy systems allow integration of any and all sources of heat; it is fuel and technology agnostic, meaning it supports the implementation of heat from all renewable and low-carbon sources. There is currently enough excess heat in Ireland to meet more than 30% of our heating demands, and this figure is growing with increased industrial activity.
This is why district heating is so important for the future of the Irish energy system and the Irish District Energy Association (IrDEA) is here to make it happen.
IrDEA was set up by its Directors, Dr David Connolly and Donna Gartland, in 2017. Dr David Connolly led the Heat Roadmap Europe project, which has been one of the most influential EU projects in the district heating sector (www.heatroadmap.eu), and is also currently the CEO of the Irish Wind Energy Association. Donna Gartland is Senior Energy Planner at Dublin’s energy agency Codema, and has recently helped to secure almost €25 million in total for the Dublin District Heating System and the Tallaght District Heating Scheme through the Climate Action Fund.
