• The Irish first came to America in the 1600’s with 50,000 to 100,000 people during the century and 100,000 more in the 1700s.
• 9 out of 10 of the Irishmen came as indentured servants.
• During the American revolution, the Irish made up about half of the Continental Army and sighed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
• Andrew Jackson was the first president to have Irish decedents.
• In the 19th century, many Irish moved to America, most of them settling in the Northeast and the Midwest.
• They lived in small, tight communities in cities like Philadelphia, Boston, and New York
• From the 1820s to 1860, 1,956,557 Irishmen came to America, 75% of them after the potato famine in 1847.
• After 1860, 1,916,547 Irishmen came by 1900.
• In 1910, there were more people in New York City of Irish heritage than Dublin’s population.
• Today, the Irish still have there tradition like the holiday of St. Patrick's Day and the Notre Dame mascot, the Fighting Irish.
• Some Irish descendent can be found today like Barrack Obama, Walt Disney, and Billy the Kid.
