DESCRIPTION OF THE OHIO LUMEX IRM-915 SAMPLING TECHNOLOGY

The Ohio Lumex 915-IRM Real-Time Mercury CEMS is based on the analytical approach of Thermo Catalytic Conversion and Atomic Absorption for detection of mercury with Zeeman background correction. The system consists of a probe, heated filter, analyzer cabinet and sample/calibration umbilical line and zero air generator/dryer. A heated dilution probe which is silco-coated uses a sintered titanium filter and dilutes stack gas to a specific ratio. To obtain Total Mercury measurement the mercury species in the gas are thermally converted to elemental form. To obtain a Speciated Mercury measurement the gas is scrubbed of acids and all oxidized mercury bypasses converter where only the elemental Hg component of the gas is measured. A heated sample line then conducts the sample from the probe to the analyzer cabinet. The analyzer then measures elemental mercury concentration on a real time basis and feeds the results to a data collection system. The system is calibrated using a NIST traceable calibration gas cylinder or NIST Certified Calibrator. Zero mercury baseline checks are conducted periodically from every 30 minutes to every 4 hours. Data results are recorded via a control system computer and saved in a csv formatted file. The data averaging time can be anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes.

EASE OF CALIBRATION: Calibration cylinder is the easiest way to calibrate, is traceable to NIST, and is simple for transportation. A cylinder lasts up to a year. Saturated mercury vapor calibrators and oxidized mercury calibrator can also be used.

FREE OF INTERFERENCES: Our mercury analyzer provides interference free measurements due to Zeeman background correction spectrometer.

HIGH SENSITIVITY: Accurate from 0.1-5000 µg/m³. Detection limit for Flue Gas is 0.2-1000 µg/wsm³.

SIMPLE AND FAST DATA OUTPUT: User friendly MS Windows operating software provides you with results on average of 1 sample per 30 seconds. Remote calibration and remote control via internet.

According to the study conducted in 2007 by Dr. Nenad Sarunac (Lehigh University), Jeffrey Ryan and John Schakenbach (U.S. EPA) at Allegheny Energy’s Armstrong Power Station in Adrian, PA (known as Armstrong Project٭), the IRM-915 stack monitor system is in excellent agreement with OHM (Ontario Hydro Method) and Sorbent Traps and performed equal to or better than the competition (there was 3 other mercury monitors vendors presented in the study).
