USAID - Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) Baluchistan

PRP – Balochistan: 79 Monthly TIG Meetings were conducted during the month of September, 2019. 385 School support visits were conducted by SSAs while 345 School support visits were conducted by Mentors. Other activities: Under component 2, a Provincial steering Committee meeting was held at PRP office Karachi and was chaired by Secretary secondary Education Balochistan. The representatives from US Consulate Mr. Mark – Education Officer; Daman Ali Bozadar, Mr. Hafeez Samoo and Lila Ram attended the meeting while PRP Senior Management CoP and DCoP

also participated in the meeting. Some Important decisions of PSC Meeting included: formation of committee for integration of PRP CPD model into PITE’s CPD, the test Item Bank was unanimously approved by the forum and a gender analysis was to be conducted in the context of Balochistan and report the recommendations to set a provincial gender policy. A Provincial Advisory Committee Meeting was also held in Quetta and was chaired by Additional Secretary Secondary Education Balochistan.

PRP – Newly Merged Tribal Districts: During the month of September, the PRP Project Director and Advisor Program Coordination attended a meeting with all project staff in Peshawar, the main objective was to share the present status of project in NMDs and to propose an alternate strategy due to the Delay in extension of NOC. Furthermore, the Regional Program Team & Advisor Program Coordination - IRM

attended a meeting with central IRC technical team, to chalk out the mechanism for implementation of proposed Alternate Strategy in NMDs (if approved by USAID). The RPDC, M&E Coordinator & Operation Coordinator attended a Training on “USAID Compliant Project Close” in IRC-PRP Islamabad.

Sindh Union Council and Community Economic Strengthening Support Project (SUCCESS):

IRM is implementing the three-year EU/NRSP funded SUCCESS project in four Districts of Sindh (Matiari, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Sujawal. During the month of September, 13 Participants Graduated in Applique work, 33 in Applique work (Advance), 62 in Dress Designing

(Advance), 39 Baby Dress Designing, 21 Beautician (Advance), 28 Crochet Work (Advance), 14 Machine Embroidery (Advance), 137 in Hand Embroidery (Advance), and 19 Professional Car Driving. Furthermore, the SPM attended SUCCESS-TVST meeting at RSPN last month.

‘Strengthening Civil Society Organizations’ Project: IRM in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute (Civic Initiative) is currently implementing a one year ‘Strengthening Civil Society Organizations Project’ funded by the U.S. State Department. The project aims to improve the organizational capacity of Pakistani Civil Society Organizations/NGO’s while, at the same time improving ties between Pakistan and the United States through programming that highlights shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation. Last month, 21

participants were trained on “Monitoring” in a one-day workshop. The training was held on September 19, 2019. Similarly, the same number of participants were trained in one day workshop on “Evaluation” on September 20, 2019. Both the workshops were held in Murree. The training documentation (Registration Forms, Participants Feedback Forms, Training Schedule, Handouts, Photographs) of two workshops were shared with the UMass team.

IRM Annual Technical Inspection 2019: IRM’s Annual Technical Inspection (ATI) is a widespread inspection of all IRM regional including project field units for improving the systems, procedures as well as the performance and quality in operations related to human resources, administrative assets and capital, financial resources, and monitoring and evaluation of organizational programmes/projects. The inspection aims to restore and regulate internal systems by highlighting good practices as well as the areas that

require improvement. The first scheduled ATI visit this year to IRM VTEC Rawalpindi was conducted in September 2019. The team conducting the inspection comprised of the IRM managerial staff from the Human Resource (HR), Finance & Accounts (F&A), Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and Administration (Admin & IT) sections. Visits to IRM South Punjab and /Sindh offices are planned for the upcoming months.

Southern Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP): The Government of Punjab, with financial assistance of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), launched Phase II of the project for three years till March 31, 2021 titled South Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP) in districts Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and DG Khan in South Punjab. SPPAP

is designed to assist the Government to achieve its objectives of economic growth and poverty alleviation. The overall goal of the project is to reduce rural poverty in Southern Punjab. Last month, 587 participants have graduated under the VTO component and 144 participants graduated under ETO component.

Accelerated Action Plan project with SAWFCO in Sindh: IRM is the implementing partner of SAFWCO for the capacity building component of the Government of Sindh funded ‘Accelerated Action Plan for Reduction of Stunting and Malnutrition’ project in Sindh. The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to contribute to the reduction of the stunting rate among children under 5 years of age by targeting the most affected districts in the Province of Sindh. Last

month, the ToT training Manual was developed and translated into Sindhi. Two (2-day each) ToT workshops were conducted with a total of 38 participants. Livestock Management and Human Nutrition IEC and training material was also developed in Sindhi for SAFWCO Trainers and Facilitator under the project.
