Term 4, Week 8 7th December 2018

Dear Parents/Caregivers, Updating numbers

With the end of term fast approaching, I would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone to update their contact numbers and addresses. Early next year we will be introducing SMS text messages to parents to inform them that their child is away for the day. It will only be sent to the #1 priority contact on your enrolment form. A new updated contact list will go home week one. If you have a disconnected number or have changed the priority order, you may not get the SMS. Please take the time to write any updated names and numbers clearly on the form early next year.

End of year privileges Reward days, party days, sport days, farewells....so much to look forward to! However, please remind your child that it is a privilege, not a right to attend. Your child must be presenting with gold face behaviours and PBL expectations for them to be able to attend.

Students that are leaving IPS at the end of the year If your child is leaving us next year and your haven't informed the school, please do so ASAP. We are currently looking at numbers and class structure and accurate numbers assist in this process greatly. Year 6 students heading into year 7 do not need to inform the school. Christmas holidays Our school is such a special place of learning for all of our IPS families and staff. Please keep an eye out on our school and report any behaviour that is dangerous or suspicious to the local police. Thank you in advance for being our eyes and ears over the Christmas break. I’m going to Newcastle. It’s such a long drive. Think we’ll need a bit to eat My friends have thought of some lovely treats.

I think I’ll just have water though.

KR have had a great first year at school. This term we have been reading books and learning about animals that live in water, at the beach or under the sea. We have also been learning about water safety and the importance of always being with an adult when you are playing in water. We have written some great information reports about The Octopus, and we have been reading and acting out the book The Greedy Grey Octopus. We had a great day at Careers’ Day, and Grandparents’ Day last term ,and this term we played on the Splash Pad at the Swimming Carni-val.. KR continues to read in the Engine Room every day and we are working hard to become independent writers. Wow! it is hard to believe the year is almost over.

This term we have been having a great

time doing Gross Motor activities in the

hall for sport.

Year 4 Zoo Snooze Our Year 4 students travelled down to Sydney on the 7th of November and

were greeted with rain, wind and cool weather. This did not stop our

Aussie 5 superstars as they put on emergency ponchos and walked around

Sydney Harbour. On our walk we saw the Botanical gardens, the Opera

House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Circular Quay. Our students even

participated in a conga line that resulted in our whole school receiving free

ice-blocks. That night the students stayed at the zoo and got to go around

at night time to see animals. We also got a behind the scenes tour of some

enclosures. The students were up bright and early the next morning to

witness some exciting keeper talks. The students spent the day walking

around the zoo and enjoying themselves. The teachers were certainly

proud of all of the students and thank them for a wonderful time.

Volunteer Morning Tea By Community Liaison Officer (CLO), Melissa Beasley

Volunteers help in many areas of Irrawang Public School such as the P&C, Canteen, classrooms (reading or craft), sporting events, and special events such as NAIDOC day, Careers Day, Transition to School, Fete, Gardening, Thou-Walla Family Centre, Pre-School, Library, Kids Hope Mentoring, Breakfast Club and Scripture. The staff, families and children of Irrawang Public School, Pre-School &Thou-Walla Family Centre would like to thank all our wonderful Volunteers who have helped at the school in 2018. Pre Loved School Uniforms If you have students leaving Irrawang this year and they have no younger siblings attending Irrawang Public School in 2019, Could we please ask for any school shirts/uniforms to be donated to the school to be used for emergency purposes. Any clean uniforms can be handed in at the office. Many thanks for your help in this.
