This Indian Standard ( Part 4 ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on 28 April 1989, after the draft finalized by the Metal Forming Machines and Tools Sectional Committee had been approved by the ,Mechanical Engineering Division Council. . ..., .’ In the preparation of this standard’, assistance,has been drawn from DIN 9859 ( Part 4 ) : 1969 Shanks with neck and collar, issued by the Deutsches Institut fiir Normung ( DIN )

3 TYPES

3.1 Type C - Plain.

NOTE - Shanks shall be provided with a notch after fixing according to Part 1 of this standard.

3.2 ppe CC - Grooved.

4.1 Dimensions shalI be as given in Table 1.

4.2 Matiog dimensions shall be as given in Table 2.

5 MATERIAL

5.1 Medium carbon steel, hardness 200 BHN.

6 FINISH

6.1 The shanks shall be free from cracks, burrs, pits and other defects.

7 SAMPLING

7.1 Lot

All the shanks of the same designation manu- factured from the same material under similar conditions of production shall be grouped together to constitute a lot.

7.2 For ascertaining the conformity of the lot, procedure for sampling and inspection as given in IS 2500 ( Part 1 ) : 1973 shall be followed. The type of sampling plan, inspection level and acceptable quality level ( AQL ) to be followed for various characteristics shall be as given in 7.3.

7.3 For dimensions, designation, finish, preserva- tion and packing, and marking, a single sampling plan with Inspection Level IV and AQL of 1’5 percent as given in Tables 1 and 2 of IS 2500 ( Part 1 ) : 1973 shall be followed.

8 DESIGNATION

8.1 A shank, Type C having dl = 32 mm and I4 = 79 mm shall be designated as:

Shank C 32 x 79 IS : 12665

9 MARKING

9.1 The shanks shall be marked at an appropriate place with the designation and manufacturer’s name and trade mark.

10 PRESERVATION AND PACKING

10.1 A suitable anti-corrosive surface treatment shall be given to the shank.

10.2 The shank shall be packed in accordance with the best trade practices.
