    NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard ( Part 1 ) which is identical with IS0 3508 : 1976 ‘Thread run-outs for fasteners with thread in accordance with IS0 261 and IS0 262’, issued by the International Organization for Standardization ( IS0 ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of the Bolts, Nuts and Fasteners Accessories Sectional Committee ( LM 14 ) and approval of the Light Mechanical Engineering Division Council.

When a threading operation is not performed throughout the length of the component, then due to the necessary throat angle or taper lead on the screwing tool, the last few threads cannot be perfectly formed. The length of these washout threads makes the thread run-out on the component.

The standard IS 1369 ‘Dimensions for screw thread runouts and undercuts’ was originally published in 1961 and subsequently revised in 1975 and 1982. The present revision has been taken up to harmonize it with the corresponding IS0 standards and is being published in three parts as follows:

    IS 1369 ( Part 1 ) Dimensions for screw thread run-outs for external IS0 metric threads ( Adoption of IS0 3508 : 1976 )

    IS 1369 ( Part 2 ) Dimensions for screw thead under-cuts for external IS0 metric threads ( Adoption of IS0 4755 : 1983 )

    IS 1369 ( Part 3 ) Dimensions for thread run-outs and under-cuts for internal threads ( blind tapped holes ) ( under preparation )

The text of IS0 Standard has been approved as suitable for publication Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

    a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear, referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

    b) Comma ( , ) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use point ( . ) as the decimal marker.

In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain International Standards for which Indian Standards also exist. The corresponding Indian Standards which are to be substituted in their place are listed below along with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated:
