NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 8434-5:1995 ‘Metallic tube connections for fluid powerand general use — Part 5: Test methods for threaded hydraulic fluid power connections’ issued by theInternational Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards onthe recommendation of the Fluid Power Fittings, Hoses and Hose Assemblies Sectional Committee andapproval of the Basic and Production Engineering Division Council.

In fluid power systems, power is transmitted and controlled through a fluid (liquid or gas) under pressurewithin a circuit. In general applications, a fluid maybe conveyed under pressure. Components may beconnected through their ports by connections (fittings), tubes anct hoses. Tubes are rigid conductors, hoses are flexible conductors.

The text of the ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for ~u,blicationas Indian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attentionis particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they shouldbe read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practiceis to use a point (.) as the decimal marker. ~

In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain International Standards for which Indian Standardsalso exist. The corresponding Indian Standards which are to be substituted in their place are listed belowalong with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated:

The Technical Committee responsible for the preparation of this standard has reviewed the provisions ofthe following ISO Standards and has decided that they are acceptable for ukie in conjunction with thisstandard:

ISO 3601-3:1987 Fluid systems—Sealing devices—O-rings — Part 3: Quahty acceptance criteria

ISO 6803:1994 Rubber or plastics hoses and hose assemblies— Hydraulic-pressure impulsetest without flexing

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the finalvalue, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis shall be rounded off in accordancewith IS 2:1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)’. The number of significant placesretained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

All components tested shall be tested in the final form(as the customer receives the part), includinganneal-ing as required for brazing.

4.2 Test temperature

Test temperature (ambient and liquid) shall be 15 “C to35 “C, unless otherwise specified in the controllingInternational Standard.

4.3 Testreport

Test results and test conditions shall be reported onthe test data form given in annex A.

CAUTION: Some of the tests described in this part ofISO 8434 are considered hazardous. It is thereforeessential that, in conducting these tests, all appro-
