Indian Standard SPECIFICATION FOR CARROM-STRIKERS
0. FOREWORD
0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Insti- tution on 19 June 1967, after the draft finalized by the Sports Goods Sectional Committee had been approved by the Consumer Products Division Council.
0.2 This standard, dealing with the carrom-strikers, is one of a series of Indian Standards on sports goods and gymnastics equipment preps.;. ed on the recommendations of the Sports Goods Export Promotion Council, New Delhi.
0.3 This standard contains clauses which call for agreement between the purchaser and the supplier or which permit the purchaser to use his option for selection to suit his requirements. The relevant clauses are 5.1 and 7.1.
0.4 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS : 2-1960*. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
1. SCOPE
1.1 This standard lays down the material, dimensional and construc- tional requirements of carrom-strikers.
2. MATERIAL
2.1 The carrom-strikers shall be manufactured from any one of the following materials:

3. SHAPE, DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT
3.1 The carrom-strikers shall have shape and dimensions as shown in Fig. 1.

3.1.1 Its maximum diameter shall be 40.6 mm and its weight shall be from 11.5 to 14.6 g.
4. MANUFACTURE, WORKMANSHIP AND FINISH
4.1 The carrom-strickers shall be made to the shape as shown in Fig. 1. These shall be finished smooth and polished. Sharp edges shall be rounded off. The stricking edges shall be square to the face, uniformly circular, free from irregularities, pits, etc. flat and smooth.

5.1 The packing shall be as agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier.

6.1 Each package of strikers shall carry manufacturer’s name, identi- fication or registered trade-mark.
6.I.l The packages of strikers may also be marked with the IS1 Certification Mark.

7. SAhiPLINC
7.1 Sampling and criteria for acceptance for carrom-strikers shall be as agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier. A recommended scheme for the same is given in Appendix A.
8. TEST
8.1 Each striker shall comply with the test given in 8.1.1.
8.1.1 When struck in a regular play, the carrom-stricker shall move smoothly in a flat position on the surface of a standard carrom-board ( see IS : 2719-19&P ) in a straight line.

RECOMMENDED SAMPLING SCHEME AND CRITERIA FOR CONFORMITY FOR CARROM-STRIKERS
A-1. LOT
A-l.1 In any consignment all the carrom-strikers manufactured from the same material shall be grouped together to constitute a lot.
A-l.l.1 Each lot shall be inspected separately to ascertain its con- formity to the requirements of this specification.

A-2. SELECTION OF SAMPLES.
A-2.1 The number of carrom-strikers to be selected at random for l * e sample shall depend upon the size of the lot and shall be in accorda_ 3 with co1 1 and 2 of Table 1.

A-2.2 The strikers in the sample shall be selected at random from the lot and in order to ensure the randomness of selection, random number tables shall be used. In case random number tables are not available, the procedure given in A-2.2.1 for selection may be adopted.
A-2.2.1 Starting from any striker in the lot count them as 1, 2, 3,...., up to r and so on in one order, where r is the integral part of N/n ( N being the lot size and n being the number of strikers to be selected ). Every rth, striker thus counted shall be withdrawn to give sample for test.
A-3. NUMBER OF TESTS AND CRlTERIA FOR CONFORMITY
A-3.1 Each striker in the sample shall be examined for material, dimen- sions, manufacture, workmanship and finish and tested in accordance with 8.1.1. A striker failing to meet any one or more of the require- ments of this specification shall be considered as defective.
A3.2 The lot shall be declared as conforming to the requirements of this specification if the number of defective strikers as obtained in A-3.1 does not exceed the permissible number of defectives given in co1 3 of Table 1.
