Indian Standard SPECIFICATION FOR

WATERMELON SEED OIL

0. FOREWORD

0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 24 March 1970, after the draft finalized by the Oils and Oilseeds Sectional Committee had &en approved by the Chemical Division Council and the Agricultural and Food Products Division Council.

0.2 Considerable quantities of watermelon seed are being made available in the North Gujarat and Rajasthan areas for the production of oil. Preparation ~of this standard had been taken up in-order to facilitate the production and availability of this oil of a uniform quality. It is expected that, with the issue of this standard, the crushing of watermelon seed wouId become established on a firm footing, and twill consequently contribute to the vegetable oil resources in the country, particularly for the edible purposes.

0.3 This Indian Standard is based on the data made available by the Oil Technological Research Institute, Anantapur, and the various manufacturers engaged in the crushing of watermelon seed in the country.

0.4 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS : 2-1960*. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

1.1 This standard -prescribes the requirements and the methods of sampling and test for watermelon .seed oil.

2. TERMINQLOGY

2.1 For the purpose of this standard, the definitions given under 2 of IS : .548- 1964t shall apply. --

*Rules for rounding off numerical values ( mid ). *Methods of sampling and test for oils and fats ( rroiscd).
