PART I DOMESTIC LAUNDRY MACHINE MOTORS

0. FOREWORD

0.1 This Indian Standard ( Part I ) was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 28 August 1980, after the draft finalized by the Rotating Machinery Sectional Committee had been approved by the Electrotech- nical Division Council.

0.2 The general requirements of single-phase electric motors are covered in IS : 996-1979* which is a necessary adjunct to this standard. This standard has been prepared with a view to cover the special requirements of single-phase motors for the specific application in domestic laundry machines.

0.3 The requirements of domestic laundry machines are given separately in IS : 6390-197lt.

0.4 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS : 2-1960$. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard (Part I) covers motors for domestic laundry machines which provides power for driving a domestic electric clothes washing machine, dryer or combination of washer and dryer.

*Specification for single-phase small ac and universal electric motors ( second rUuiJiOn ).

tSpecification for domestic electric clothes washing machine ( non-automatic ). $Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised ).

3. TYPE OF MOTOR

3.1 The motor for domestic laundry machines shall be one of the follow- ing types, and having windings with Class A, Class E, Class B or Class F insulation ( see IS : 1271-1958* ):

a) Split phase motor,

b) Capacitor start induction run motor,

c) Capacitor start and capacitor run motor ( Two Value Capacitor Type ),

d) Parmanent-split capacitcr motor ( for dryers only ),

e) Universal motor, and

f) ac series motors.

4. VOLTAGE, FREQUENCY, OUTPUT AND SPEED RATINGS

4.1 Voltage Rating - The provisions of 7.1 and D-2 of IS : 996-19797 shall apply.

4.2 Frequency - The provisions of 7.2 and D-2 of IS : 996-19797 shall

apply.

4.3 Output Ratings - Preferred output ratings of the motor shall be 125, 200, 250 and 370 watts.

4.4 Speed - Motors shall be single speed or multi-speed pole changing type. Preferred slip shall be 7 percent.

5. DIMENSIONS

5.1 The provisions of 9 of IS : 996-19797 shall apply.

6. TYPE OF ENCLOSURE

6.1 The provisions of 4 of IS : 996-1979 shall apply?.
